Pocket Rocket “I'm currently using a Primus Multi-Fuel 3288 for my primary stove. I am very happy with it. In extreme cold and high winds I don't think it can be beat. My only complaint is the weight, at 18 oz it's heavy. Then you gotta add the fuel. But that's the price you pay for a bomber winter burner. I recently purchased an MSR Pocket Rocket for lightweight 3-season use. It weighs 3 oz. I knew it seemed to boil faster than my Primus, so I thought I'd test 'em. Test conditions were room temp of 73 degrees. New MSR iso pro cartridge on each stove. 1 liter of cold water to a rolling boil. Pocket Rocket - 3 min 10 sec. MFS 3288 - 5 min 20 sec. Wow, I didn't realize the Primus was that slow. The Primus is also super durable and rock-steady. Perfect for snow camping. The pot of water looks real shaky balanced on top of the MSR. They both have their good points. At 35 bucks, I think the Pocket Rocket is a great 3-season stove. Weighs next to nothing and packs down tiny.” 12:50:48 AM 3/15/01 RE: Pocket Rocket “I have a Primus yellowstone ultralight and although I haven't used it yet, think that it's going to be a great stove. The times I lit it I could see and feel that it was giving off more heat then a MSR whisperlight. Looks pretty stable too.” 3:47:58 PM 3/15/01 RE: Pocket Rocket “I have only heard good things about the pocket rocket. I have thought of getting one to play with, but I have other gear I would rather buy right now. Iwould really be interested to find out how long one cartridge lasts under normal use, and how much the cartridge weighs - they always seem to give the volume but not the actual weight.” 9:03:47 PM 3/15/01 RE: Pocket Rocket “I put some cartridges on the scales the other day. Weights were MSR (8 oz. net)-12.8 oz., Primus (7.8 0z. net)-11.6, Peak One (8)-13.8, and Snopeak (3.88 oz/110g)-7.2. I also have the Packet Rocket, which I really like for solo hiking but wonder how its small diameter flame will work with bigger pots. I've only used it as yet with my MSR ti .85l, and it worked great. Something interesting about the Pocket Rocket is that the stove weighs 3.1 oz. and the plastic storage box it comes in weighs over an ounce. So it goes, rooster” 9:22:56 PM 3/15/01 RE: Pocket Rocket “How long does an 8oz cartridge last? I guess that depends on the type of cooking you do, but how about a ballpark figure in trail days?” 9:30:45 PM 3/15/01 RE: Pocket Rocket “suppose to last and hour on high. 3 hours on low . I just bought one, found it on sale for 20 bucks but havent had the chance to try it out yet.” 11:00:40 PM 3/15/01
