If anyone is interested I'm planning to meet Naked Ape around Chattanooga that Friday morning and get a little BPing in and be at South Cumberland Visitors Center Saturday Morning 10:00 am CENTERAL TIME. If anyone wants to hook up on friday let me know and I'll get you the plan for the that part of the outing.
The first day of the Gizzard trip will be 4.5 miles in and camp at Raven Point Campsite.

“I'll be hitting the trail Thurs, but it being at the southern terminus of the CT is still in question. If my alternate plans materialize, I'll meet y'all Saturday at 10:00 at Gizzard's parking. Tomorrow I'll try to have a go at copying them maps for ya/us WD.”

The David Nelson Band is playing an all day outdoor festival-type of gig (along with several other bands) at a beautiful place in the Shawnee Forest, called Shawnee Cave, on April 28. I'm helping to promote the show and thus have free passes - I gotta go. They haven't played in this area in a couple of years, it's gonna be a big ol', beer-drinkin', throwin' down Shawnee style kinda party!

“I was BAD!! It reached 51* today with the sun shining brightly. I couldn't stop thinking about this trip and how it can't get here too soon, so what do I do?! I spend more money I don't have on what else? GEAR! I bought a Thermarest Easy Chair so I can hang out in comfort with y'all. I also bought a new stuff sack for my Thermarest because when I ordered it, it came in a stuff sack for a 3/4 length mattress but mine is full length. I got awful hand cramps rolling that dang thing up to get it to fit in that sack.

“The Gizzard trip itself is April 28 & 29. Some of us are meeting the 27th (friday) to do a pre-trip at another place. Anyone of yall that wants to can come friday too. The reason is because Sunshine is flying in and didn't want to do just a one nighter so I scrounged an extra day off work to get her in the woods for more than just one night. Not to mention most of yall too are comming a good distace also. Fiery Gizzard is pretty much a one night kinda place with only 12.5 miles. We could turn it into a 2 nighter but the days miles would be pretty low.”

“I've heard several stories of why it's called Fiery Gizzard. Don't know the real one though. I'll be over that way this weekend and I'll see if I can get a straight answer for ya.
As far as eating plants, I leave that for the critters out there. I got my food bag. Maybe the wild flowers will be popping up by then.”

April is the season for grubbin with the wildlife. But I do believe that the area should have ramps and shrooms to chow, and it should be much less picked over than the AT.

We decided the pre trip is gonna be SAVAGE GULF! Stone Door side. We'll meet Naked Ape & Cow Patty at Alum Gap campsite. We figured The Gulf would be perfect because it's only 30 mins from the Visitors Center plus for the folks that missed the February trip, this will be a good sample for ya. For the ones that did go, I got two more waterfalls to show ya we missed before.

Meeting time on Friday (April 27) for SAVAGE GULF will be 9:30 AM CENTERAL TIME at South Cumberland Visitors Center.

The meeting time for the Gizzard trip will be Saturday (April 28)10:00 AM CENTERAL TIME at the South Cumberland Visitors Center.”

It's a big weekend for the kiddos. If I can find someone to transport them hither and yon, then I'll be able to come. My sources say it's a definite maybe!

We don't need no stinkin books. Let's just start with a practical application ... We can record the change in weight of the packs as the time changes (dw/dt). I wonder how much your TI-89 weighs!

If I don't make it, you'll have to keep Mozark and Jerbear in line for me. Things get really interesting when you put those two together - especially if there's a gear shop nearby! LOL”
