Anyone daring enough for this
I noticed in backpacker magazine that mountain hardwear is selling a kilt to wear on the trail. Anyone out there willing to try this thing?

I'd wear one. Not constricting. Great range of movement. Keeps the boys cool on a hot day. Sure, why not?

Maybe not now but after I go to Europe this Summer I'd feel more comfortable about doing it.

I had heard of this but never saw this style of clothes on the trail. I would wear one if the Mtn. Hardwear logo was in just the right spot!LOL.
Sure would make hiking with the sh!ts easy.

I've never even seen a gal bp'ing in a skirt!

But wouldn't you miss that sense of... well, containment that comes along with a good pair of unders?

And $85.00 is a lot of dinero for a skirt.

I've seen a chick in a skirt. It was a sundress actually. Solitary, I believe it's the norm to go "commando" in a kilt. Ever hear the joke about the scot who passed out drunk in the village green? A girl wandered by and decided to take a peek under his kilt to see what he wore beneath it. Finding nothing but his natural state she tied her hair ribbon on his member. Upon waking the scot went to take a leak. When he saw the ribbon he remaked "I don't know where ya been laddie but I see ya won first prize!". HAAHAA.

Frankly I just don't see the need. Shorts or hiking pants have always worked well enough for me.
I mean, I've never stopped in the middle of a hike and said "Boy I wish I had a kilt right now!"

I know my gonads would love it, the freedom, the breezes, the scratching of bug bites, the stinging of DEET on freshly scratch nads. I tell ya, after spending the summer in the Arctic, slapping blood swollen skeeters off my gential area as I TRIED to dump, I don't think I would be caught dead in that skirt without some extra wrapping around the boys.

Imagine getting some crazied bug(bee, wasp, horsefly, etc) stuck up underneath it. I would love to see that can-can dance!!!!

I've hiked in the indian version of a kilt(not great but interesting) and I've worn kilts in formal events. If my ancestors could fight military campaigns in a kilt they can't be that bad for hiking. After all; wouldn't most of the time in a campaign be spent hiking from one battle to the next, carrying most everything you'll need?

Plus; if you were going to shank someone in the backwoods wouldn't you think twice about messing with the guy that was crazy enough to wear a dress in the woods?

I see it on the mh website but I don't see it in the magazine. Is it in outside or backpacker? Where in the issue is it? Some guys play ultimate frisbee in kilts for the mobility and this would be a lot lighter, actually.

It's in Backpacker. Back section of gear reviews.

85 bucks is rediculous! Um, on second thought, I'd be glad to sew you one up at half the price;-)

I know several guys who are into Contra Dancing that wear calf length skirts while dancing.

I met a Northbound through-hiker last year in Maine (near Saddleback) who was wearing a kilt. I think his trailname was "thoroughfare gap."

He looked the part, a big bushy blonde brown beard, long wild hair and he was wearing it when it was 39 degrees. He was almost done and making good time. I think he had a web journal...

The only kilt I'm ever going to wear is one with made of Gordon plaid of my Scottish ancestors.
Besides, that would be the last place I would want exposed to mesquitos!

We ran into him on August 19th... I notice that for his AUgust 23rd entry there is a picture of him at the AT 2000 mile mark with his kilt.
