Yeah, if I get a chance to watch it. I'd much rather be in the Eco-Challenge than Survivor.

Sarabelle is one of our (ECT) secret weapons. We have her in reserve for the Rat Race. Also, she'll be a member of the Spilled Beer Emergency Response Team.

Interesting thought here. If you were gonna get a bunch of TTers together for an Eco Challenge, Who would you want on your team. 4 to a team and you gotta have at least one member on the opposite sex.

After so many of last years "Eco Warriors" getting that crazy rat feces virus, I am curious to see how big a turnout the challenge gets this year. Some of the people are still suffering effects from being exposed.

RE: eco-challenge borneo
I was thinking about a TT Eco Challenge today at work. I bet it would be a pretty fun event. We could see which team could hike the Centennial Trail (111 miles) the fastest. I'm booked this year but 2002 would be good anytime after June.

we would have to throw in some other disciplines other then hiking. We could do climbing, mountain biking, maybe some rafting. Just enough to make it challenging.

RE: eco-challenge borneo
If we use the usual Challenge thinking (such as at least one female to a team) are you going to require at least one old fart to a team of you young studs? Then I have a chance to contribute. Otherwise I'll help with the first aid and Keksi will join Sarabelle on the beer squad.

How does teams of 5 with at least one member of both genders sound? Disciplines could include a trekking leg, river crossing, knot tying and canoeing. Maybe to add some humor a "cathole" digging competion and timed water filtration race.

RE: eco-challenge borneo
We could do some TT war games. That would be fun. We would do it over a large area that includes areas such as rock faces and rivers. Each team would set up a base camp and attempt to locate and eliminate the opposing team.

RE: eco-challenge borneo
Actually what I thought would make it interesting is requiring one dog on every team. I pick Sarabelle!

The Air Force Para-Rescue guys had a team in last year. They had a bad time of it. They basically said those people (the racers) go out to kill themselves in the competition, and if the survive it is a bonus. They (the PJs) were more in the mindset of sustained operations.

I have noticed that military teams ALWAYS do poorly in the eco-challenge and in the raid-de-galloiuse(sp?). Joy and I have discussed why this seems to be the case. I/we couldnt come with any clear answers, any ideas? For dogs i'd want my pointer or buddur(the dog).

RE: eco-challenge borneo
east vs. west: max 10(+) bodies a team.
Cut a line due north from the Ark. and Okie state line thru Minnie-sota. Those on the east side of that line would be easterns.

Challenges orienteering(bushwackin), fire starting, shelter building, cooking, hiking at much of a challenge on groomed mark trails, LNT challenge(how well you cover your tracks) capture the flag.

What ever the challenges are they have to be doable within a week or week and half.

We could start out by having a gum ball rally to the destination that is equal distance from the majority of the players involved.

Hey, not to get too far off topic here, but what's up with that "Best of Best" military showdown show on TBS? When I first saw the ad for it, I was slackjawed. Is it just me or does it seem like a big recruiting ploy? And how did Teddy boy get involved with that anyway. Someone else is getting rich off of taxpayer dollars. Can't wait to see how the Navy f*cks it up.

I like the idea of all hiking to a central meeting point. We could come down into the valley like Highland tribes with the drums sounding loudly. Then, let the games begin!

As far as adding Climbing, Biking, Rafting. Lets just keep in mind that not everybody at this site is experienced at these other activities. Should we just keep it BPing to draw more people into the fun?

Did anyone watch 48 hours last night? What did you think of the guy that had plans to make a movie (or somethin' like that) and quit - disqualifying his whole team - which incuded a married couple that paid the team's $70,000 in fees?

I watched it again - I'd say our perception of what happended is different. The leader quit because the other guy had a deadline - they may have used her as an excuse, but she wasn't quitting no matter what. I'm not saying that was smart, but she wasn't quitting.

RE: eco-challenge borneo
Joy and I watched the 48 hrs deal today(we taped it). From what I saw the team who was gonna win it (in their words) lost because stunt boy had a gig. Yes the lady was hurtin, but all contestants hurt.

I saw some really foolish mistakes. Yes its easy to say so here in my comfy chair sippin ice water...Why in the hell would you swim in the shoes that you must hike in? The few seconds it would take to change into a pair of tevas could potentially save you considereable pain. Put the shoes in a h2o proof bag and put them and dry socks on when you hit the trail. At least during the 70+ mile canoe portion you wouldnt have soaked sox and shoes tearing up your feet. They'd get some air in sandals. No blister equals speed.
