Denatured Alcoohol?

“I'm going to build a little Pepsi can stove, and according to the directions it burns denatured alcohol. What exactly is denatured alcohol, and what would be the best type to burn in the stove?”

“Just go to the paint section in any hardwear store and buy "Denatured Alcohol". Of different kinds of alcohol, this type puts out the highest BTUs. It will be found under it's name.”

“Don't you find it kind of ironic to go out into nature and burn denatured alcohol?”

“Alcohol burning stoves run on ethanol, which happens to also be the active ingredient in booze. Denatured is simply a euphemism for poisoned. If the fuel were not poisoned (denatured) one could mix it half and half with water to make 100 proof vodka. Don?t try this, of course, because the denaturing (poisoning, whatever) will cause death, blindness, and general bad times if ingested.

Denatured alcohol can be found in the hardware store in the section with paint thinners and solvents.”
