Outback Oven “Have you used one? I am thinking of getting one for a family trip to Isle Royale in August. I have a Whisperlite Int'l and wonder if it'll give me fits if I want to keep the temp constant. Is it all it's cracked up to be? Thanks for your relevant input!” 8:36:39 AM 3/21/01 RE: Outback Oven “I bought one a couple years ago, in the hopes that I could satisfy my Brownie cravings in the outback... despite my best efforts of several occasions, I STILL haven't mastered it. I used a Dragonfly, too, for its simmering adjustability, as well as a heat diffuser, and still, I wound up burning the bottom, and turning stuff into bricks... Takes a lot more practice than I've invested in it... so far.” 9:31:58 AM 3/21/01 RE: Outback Oven “I have to agree with obi on this one. I also always feel like I am using too much fuel for the trade off of whatever I am baking. But then, I am always paranoid about running out of fuel and never have. Let me be the first to say......gee this has been discussed in the past. (I personally don't think that should preclude bringing up a topic (except guns on the trail), I just knew some grouch would jump all over it)” 11:44:12 AM 3/21/01 RE: Outback Oven “I have one and love it. However, I have an Apex I stove which is the flame control king. You have to keep a very low flame to make the oven work. The Outback oven is very fuel efficient. I have made quite a few of the dishes they sell for it and they have all been yummy IMHO (but expensive). In our Scout troop the adults demanded I bring it on all our backpacking trips to make coffee cake and such for them. It has been discussed before, but not for a while.” 12:51:46 PM 3/21/01
