AmyG's tip report: avoid stock in dot.coms
Awww Lee, ya shouldn't have...
but since ya did! ;o)

I posted some snippets here and there, but since ya went through all the trouble of making a designated space for me, I'll embellish a little.

Great trip...drove up through New England, stopping at some cool places along the way. Cavorted with some witches in Salem...drove up along the coast alllll the way to Maine. Very cool to pass though quaint fishing villages and such. I stopped at the Outlet stores in Freeport...
mercy! LLBean, Patagonia and North Face all on one street! I was good though...escaped with just a few postcards. sigh
(of course, I wasn?t completely behaved, I had planned on returning a day or so later when I met up with Uphill Klimber, but unfortunately those plans didn?t pan out...bummah)

Dayhiked some in Maine, of course...
One day went to Bar Harbor for a job interview and then a change ala superman outta my suit and into my boots and wild woman attire. I just meandered a while in Acadia and enjoyed the remaining daylight. It was an incredibly bright day and the cliffs and coast were gorgeous! (pics don't do it justice)

Drove up to Moosehead lake another day, but didn't see my moose. I took my friends with me(the ones I stayed with in Maine) so we just did some short strolling through the park along groomed trails. Wandered a bit around the AT section near Barren Mt also. Their child(1 year old) amazes me...she absolutely loved playing in the snow with me. She laughed hysterically when I sank above my knees in some spots, while she frolicked easily above the upper crust of snow...of course, she did fall down a few times, but that only made her giggle even more. What a cutie. I already informed the parents that Hannah is going to be a backpacker if I have anything to do with it. When I go back in Junish, I?ll be putting her in the kiddie pack and hittin? the trail. ;o)

New Hamp on the way back was another absolutely perfect day...bright and sunny. I drove along mostly backcountry roads, taking my time and seeing the sights. I drove down through the Northern White Mt range...mouth agape. Those mountains are incredible. Mt. Washington is truly impressive to see(even if I have mixed feelings about ever wanting to climb it...very commercialized, IMHO, but I digress...). I chose a loop hike in the Southern region(Welch-Dickey trail). It was 4.5 miles and covered Welch and Dickey Mt.s (seen in the pics) with some great trail scenery, streams, frozen falls, etc. The open, exposed ledges towards the top of Welch were a bit skeery for this flatlander, especially with the wind making it feel like I could just fly right off, but it was awesome. The views from the top were fab, with the sun reflecting sparkling mt peaks and valleys all around.

Patch and I ?camped? out at the red roof on the way home, enjoying some yummy Italian edibles and beer.

Now back to home sweet home...
sigh

RE: AmyG's tip report
Now I'm waiting fer Amy's tip retort.

AMy's post brings back memories. Its been many years decades even)since I've been to Moosehead lake (summer tho' and I did see Meese). Did Welch-Dickey a few years back when my kids were smaller and I was training and indoctrinating them into backpacking. Its a beautiful loop.

Mt. Washington is worth climbing even if there is a cog railway and a private (mega-toll) road that rake in the bucks... its best if you climb it in several days. You can do a loop hike or get off at an AMC shuttle stop (the hitch-hiking is safe and easy around there).

So, take a tip from me and consider it for your Junish trip.
