So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “I've noticed several people talk about boiling in the bag. I've tried this before, with freezer bags, and the bag melts. Big disaster. So I looked for "roasting bags". The only ones I can find are "turkey size". Is this the type of bag yall are using? And do they come in smaller sizes? Where do you get them?” 3:54:35 PM 3/24/01 RE: So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “The ones I use are designed for the purpose. These are seal-meal bags and you must have the machine to seal them with. They will usually not rupture when boiled, but I have had an occasional problem. Regular freezer bags will not work.” 3:58:03 PM 3/24/01 RE: So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “The ads for vacuum seal machines say their bags work in boiling water. I bought a machine but never have used it. The instructions say extra bags are sold at Wal-Mart.” 5:55:30 PM 3/24/01 RE: So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “save the old lipton noodle side dish packages when eating at home and use them.” 6:48:16 PM 3/24/01 RE: So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “I use the seal-a-meal thing too. So far, it's only failed once. I've found that if you leave a little air in the package, it floats better, doesn't touch the bottom of the pan, and doesn't get a hole in it. Duh, took me a while to figure that one out! LOl” 9:11:16 PM 3/24/01 RE: So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “I asked this same question a while ago, and was told to boil the water in a pot, then pour it into the bag. As long as it was good, like Ziplock or Glad I was told, it would work. Haven't tried it out yet.” 1:24:28 PM 3/25/01 RE: So Hot It Melted...or, Smaller Than A Turkey “I was hiking and ran into Nigal on the trail. He boiled water, put it in a ziplock containing oatmeal and ate with no trouble (or melting) at all. I'm looking forward to doing the same thing on my next hike.” 5:00:10 PM 3/27/01
