“Hello everybody. I've been checking out your site for about a week or so. You all seem like a pretty fun knowledgable crew, so I thought I'd sign up. A bit about myself: I grew up in Michigan, in the northern part of the lower penninsula and went to school in the upper penninsula. I moned down to North Carolina about six months ago for a job, and am still here. I've done plenty of camping and some canoeing, but it's been a few years since I've done any real backpacking. I'd like to start again, so here I am. Anyway, sorry this is so long, Hello.”
“This can be a rough group (as I haves sampled for my self many times). How ever, we are a good bunch. Well some of us. Just some hints so you don?t have to endure the same pain that I have.
1) NEVER say any thing if you don?t have sources to back you up, they will kill you for that. 2) Always use your best spelling and grammar. 3) If make fun of some one they WILL retaliate. 4) If you never in you TT life made fun of any one, you still may have harsh comments coming your way. 5) If you state a scientific fact that is hard to believe, don?t expect them too.
Now some day to day hints:
1) There are some people that check in here every 5 minutes because we have nothing better to do, we call them regulars. 2) There are some people that post something extremely radical, knowing that they will upset many people, we call them trolls. 3) There are some people that change their name every month, we call him tarpy. 4) There is another web site with all of are pictures on it , and the web master of that site we call Phill 5) This site crashes often so buckle your seat belt and where a helmet. 6) You can use most HTML in on TT (trail talk) and if you don?t know any we have a thread to solve that problem Some of us use AOL IM (AIM RULES), Some of us use MSN IM, Some of us use Yahoo IM, and more of us use ICQ.
There you go I hope that this has set you on the right foot.
“Ice Tea.....you just kill me with that!! LOL!! You have it saved away to send out to every newcomer... too funny.
So how is track, Ice Tea?
And to trailbuster, welcome!! Male or female? If you're male, you'll be recruited as a cabana boy......... and if female, you'll be asked to "get beer." Course, if you've been spying, you know that by now. LOL!!”
“namaste trailbuster....
there are quite a few n. carolina folks here..so, you are in good company for info and hiking buds for your area....in fact, there is a trip coming up ..April 20th to 23rd....Wilson Creek in Pisgah Natl Forest.......maybe you should jump in on that one......the thread is Wilson Creek SECT or SECT Wilson Creek...something like that....
have fun.....”
“Welcome trailbuster from another newbie. These folks have certainly made me feel at home and I'm sure they will you too. Glad I'm not the jr. member now!”
“Welcome Trailbuster !
I should introduce myself to the group as well. I have been posting for a couple weeks already - changed my name twice; Wi Walker and Sky Searcher - I decided to keep The Hangman -it stems from another hobby.
I am from central Wisconsin. I have been Camping and backpacking all my life - I started winter backpacking this year - absolutly love it - kinda hate to see summer(bugs) come.
I certainly have enjoyed the discussions on this site so far and look forward to many more.”
Actually I fly radio controlled model airplanes. I found these guys on the web who build scale models of WWII fighters and tie 40' crepe paper streamers on the tail. A bunch of you go up and you try to cut the other guy's streamer with your propeller - without them cutting yours.
Of course a head-on collision occurs every now and then.
We all took fighter names - I am The Hangman”
“hangman........ Madison?? There's a few people here from the UP. I'm from Ne Ioway. (not too far from Prairie du Chien, to put it in Wisconsin terminology). hehee
Hangman - Ditto on the winter camping. I love it! My friends always say, "What, are you crazy? It's too cold!" And I always tell them, "Hey, no bugs, no snakes, no bears, and you usually have the trails all to yourself."
I go to my little hidden places in the summer, then in the winter, I try to hit all the over-crowded parks.”
“Welcome, trailbuster. I'm born and raised in Southern California, but went to college a little south of you in Flint. We used to go skiing and canoeing in the upper part of the lower peninsula.
I think people are pretty friendly here, and much more so in person. We'll even post your picture for everyone to see on our photo page.”
“Hey Sunshine-- mtu.edu? do you go to Tech? I graduated from there last may.
Phil- I prabably worked at or at least skied at the places you used to ski at some point or another.”
“That's great. There's plenty of great places up there. We used to hike up Mt Bohemia and camp up there before it was a ski hill. I never did make it to Isle Royal though. The one thing I regret”
“It's not too late, trailbuster. I was planning a trip for this summer but looks like I'll have to postpone until next year. There are other TT people who go out there. It's a must do. :o)”
“welcome trailbuster, was just visiting your state about a month ago..near cape hatteras nat'l seashore. Gorgeous area! I've found this group will keep you on your toes for sure --- they always seem to know the latest scoop and someone's always got photos to share. There's a wealth of bping info here, so don't be afraid to ask for help! Have fun!!!”
“Hei hei, trailbuster (if you went to Tech you must have picked up a bit of Finn speak, when you weren't spending all your time in The Library [in-joke: that's a downtown Houghton bar with a great cover excuse for a name]). Like you, I'm trying to recover my backpacking roots after being mostly paddling and cycling oriented (really, work oriented) for a number of years.
Howdie Hangman, how central in Wisconsin are you?
I'm a Michigander (long time time spent both L.P. -- Kalamazoo/Portage, Big Rapids, East Lansing, Cadillac -- and U.P. -- Marquette) now living in northern Wisconsin -- Rhinelander, so I've got you both covered.”
“Welcome, trailbuster. Feel free to let fly with the wisecracks at any time.
Sunshine--you haven't been assigned a cabana boy yet? C'mon over to CA where the sun is shining and the umbrella drinks are flowing. I'll take care of ya!”
“So, T....
What da fook you call those of us who don't post every five minutes, but post here everyday?
We ain't regulars?
We's constipationers?
You, are still a newbie, TOO!
Getting a little too knowlegeable for your britches, eh?”
“I don't know whats worst, that I did not know your sex, or that I'm saying that I did not know. Well I haven't payed much attention to the Hello, and Hey All threads so I really didn't know. I just saw the name BPBaby, and got curious if you where younger than me.”
“Welcome Trailbuster. Glad to have another victim, err, I mean poster.
Tight Wad Bob, AKA Honey and I are in Durham. Skiracer is in Raleigh and there are several others from NC, mostly in the western part of the state.
Sunshine-you don't get your own Cabana Boy. We share them until one of our own sneaks off and marries them. Just crack your whip and tell them to fetch you a cool drink. LOL”
