Wanting a bigger pack
Hopefully this year I will extend my out time to a week or more..I have been looking at different packs and I am not sure about how many C U would suffice for say a week to 10 days..

Heres a pack I picked out so far..

looks about right. I use a 5k for 7-10 days, alot depends on how much you feel you need to bring along. Remember you can always under fill but its hard to get more in than it will hold.

That's a nice looking pack! I think that would be a good size for a week long trip. I did 4 days with my Peak 1 and it's only 4200 ci. Besides, if your out for around a week, You'll need to resupply soon anyway. I'd go for it.

So, not to make your decision any more difficult... I have a size Large(5,100 ci), Red, 1998 Gregory Palisade in excellent condition that I will sell for $180, plus shipping (Atlanta area.)Similar features to the Netherworld and Gregory quality.

RE: Wanting a bigger pack
The Lowe Netherworld you are looking at was a huge pack ... should do you okay for any length of trip with 5400 cu. inches, Evergreen. It is 6 1bs, however. I almost bought that same pack, but finally setted on the Gregory Mirage, which is basically the same pack as the Palisade, but just a bit smaller at 4900 cu. inches, and 51bs. 3 oz. It works for me, I love it. You must figure out what works for you. Have fun shopping for 'em, that's half the fun. New gear ... gotta love it.

RE: Wanting a bigger pack
thanks for your advice..
The only problem I see with going to a pack that holds more is.. You know us women..the more room the more stuff to fill it up..lol

If it's for a week long trip you will need more! That's why you need different size packs.

RE: Wanting a bigger pack
It all depends on the season and the type of food you bring and if you'll be sharing gear. I would have enough room with 5000 c.i. for 3 season.

5000 ci should get you through ANY season.

RE: Wanting a bigger pack
It's a nice pack Evergreen! I have the Netherworld LD70 (ladie's dimensions, 70 liters). I find the 70 large enough for a week trip but hyper shares the carring of our community gear so 90 would probably be just right for a solo hiker. I think for the price you can't beat the quality and fit. I was really pleased to find mine (cut for a woman) at Sierra Trading Post for $129. Hyperpacker's pack is basically the same model, same size. He likes his too. I've never been dissapointed with mine. I hope you like your's as much! Hope the package comes FAST! :^)

RE: Wanting a bigger pack
My packs just kept getting bigger and bigger too.

I started with a ~2700 cu in pack, and was a Master Strapper of everything that wouldn't fit inside. Then got a Gregory Reality (~4650 cu in), which I use the most, but still strapped winter stuff to the outside. Then got a DD Terraplane-X (~5800 cu in) as an impulse purchase as I watched the new packs being exhumed from their shipping boxes the week I got my income tax check. It fits EVERYTHING inside for a cold winter excursion.

Between the Gragory and Dana, I'll most likely never buy another pack again.

RE: Wanting a bigger pack
Evergreen- I didn't like the way the Lowe Alpine packs fit me. Too narrow at the neck and shoulders. I had raw spots on my neck the first time I used it. Then again I'm not a small framed gal by any means. I would suggest loading it down and taking a long walk with it before taking it on the trail. REI is really good about returns.

I just recently bought a Gregory. The most comfortable pack I've ever used! If you can, take up short trip on his offer.
