waterproof tent?? “can someone help me out with a good (hopefully cheap) waterproof tent. Any good suggestions. Also does anyone know if the Ridgeway by kelty tents are any good?? Thanks” 8:53:38 PM 3/29/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “jaay7, the EMS North Star tents are on sale for the next few weeks ... I think $149 but check it out. Got a friend who has one & we bivvied in it last September ... their was dew all over & thick the next morning, and the tent didn't get a bit wet inside. It's got a rainfly which covers the whole tent, yet only touches the poles (2), and has got some cool vestibules on either side for storing boots, packs, etc. That's the one I would buy if I was in the market for one.” 10:53:59 PM 3/29/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “What ever you get, be sure to use Seam Seal and then spray iy with Camp Dry or something like that. After that, GEAR TEST TIME!!” 11:34:30 PM 3/29/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “jaay7, it would be helpful if you could be a little more specific - for example, how many people have to fit in the tent, what do you mean by cheap ($50, $100, $200), will you use it for backpacking, etc. Most tents are waterproof if you seam seal the tent & rainfly.” 12:58:33 AM 3/30/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “jaay7, a Ridegeway by Kelty tent is fine for car camping but I wouldn't recommend one for backpacking. If you look at Kelty's web site you'll see that Ridgeway is not actually manufactured by Kelty, just sold with their name on it. There's much better stuff out there for not that much more.” 10:03:55 AM 3/30/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “REI Spring Sale starts today...Sierra Designs Orion CD 2000 for $165, I think it's only 4 lbs. Also TNF Harrier F2000 if you want to spend more $$, it's going for $229.” 12:18:09 PM 3/30/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “want a cool tent? I just just bought this one a tested it with nothing but rain 2 days ago.Go to www.hennessyhammock.com” 1:02:40 AM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “Intriguing. A hammock would seem to keep you dry no matter how much water was on the ground. What was your experience in the rain? Maybe a lightweight tarp over it.” 1:35:39 AM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “But what I want to knowis...did it rain when you tested it? lol!!” 10:29:38 AM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “Hennessey Hammocks are great! Have I said that before? But you need to be more specific as to what you need before I would answer. Price, capacity, money, and conditions.” 1:41:37 PM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “I was looking at several old threads on hammocks and I'm just about sold. Also the Hennessy Hammocks just came out with several different versions, from a super lighweight (1.5 lbs) to an extra large size. What I'm wondering is can you sleep on your side comfortably?” 3:00:00 PM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “Steve Hiker, yes you can. I have the ultralight, and the weight is actually 27oz, so 1.75 pounds are more accurate. The weight of the initial utralight was 1.5, but Tom Hennessey made the fly bigger and added the webbing straps ("Tree Huggers") which account for the extra 3oz.” 3:09:24 PM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “I found them extremely difficult to adjust you sleeping bag in. I kept having to stand up, adjust, lay down again. Pain in the ass. However, others believe in them so much, it boilds down to preference.” 4:00:09 PM 4/02/01 RE: waterproof tent?? “My TNF Mountain is not exactly cheap but I swear you could paddle it down a river and stay dry. I have never even had drop of condensation in this tent.” 11:50:42 AM 4/03/01
