need a good hat “Well floks it's almost summer. For some of us who are missing hair on top that means a hat. I have yet to find a really good hat for spring and summer use. I don't care for baseball caps. You any of ya'll have any ideas?” 3:56:06 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “I have a nice floppy canvas hat that I like. Keeps the sun out and is floppy enough I can put in a pocket if necessary.” 4:01:15 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat 4:08:12 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “That's the one. Good hat.” 4:09:06 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “I'm in the same boat grahamster. Been looking at the same hat that has been recommended. Baseball caps suck IMO.” 4:44:57 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “Get an OR Sonora Sombrero. Check it our at www.orgear.com I have had mine for years, and it really is a quality hat. It's about $30. "If you plan to travel in the desert, paddle in the tropics, or hike in the sun for long hours at a time, the Sonora Sombrero is just the ticket. In this hat we use our unique SolarPlex fabric for its great combination of air and vapor permeability, sun-proofness, durability, and quick drying. The crown is un-lined to keep it as cool as possible in the hot sun and the Cinch-Band keeps it comfortably in place."” 4:52:22 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “Get a boonie/flop hat. You can get a good cotton one for less than $10 at most surplus stores. Mine is some 6+ years old. IMHO always buy a hat that you can afford to lose.Though I have walked .5 miles to fing the aforementioned cheap hat.” 5:02:04 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “Watership Trading Co. makes great hats.” 8:40:28 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “I have an REI Olympic Rain Hat (on sale now for $19!). It keeps the rain out, of course, but it's also breathable, comfy, and super-light, so I'll bet it would make a good sun hat as well.” 8:47:44 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “I've thought about one of those conical Vietnamese hats. Anybody ever try one?” 10:44:30 PM 3/30/01 RE: need a good hat “Grab your wallet and go over to... www.tilley.com They have a lifetime warranty and they will replace them for just about any reason. They have some pretty pricey underware too!” 1:50:47 AM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat 12:52:38 PM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat 2:32:24 PM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat “Especially good in a lightning storm! LOL.” 2:33:16 PM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat “Woops, forgot to log off Hyper; that was me in reference to Buddur's hat.” 2:35:19 PM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat 4:44:17 PM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat “ROTFLMAO!!!!” 5:24:13 PM 3/31/01 RE: need a good hat “That's I call REAL meatheads.” 11:06:11 PM 4/01/01 RE: need a good hat “I have to agree with Wind Walker. The Tilley is an excellent hat with a great guarantee. They are expensive though.” 8:33:08 AM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “Grahamster... Having a "reverse mohalk" myself, I can relate! ;-) I also have sensitive facial skin, so wide-brim is almost a necessity for me - esp. in warmer weather. After experimenting with various headwear over the years, I found Columbia's Bora Bora Booney (love that name!) was an excellent choice ($23 at Campmor). Check it out... http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=103863&prmenbr=226 Columbia also makes an OmniTech version of it... http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1643841&prmenbr=226” 9:06:27 AM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “walkindude... Hey that's MY hat! Gimme! ;-)” 9:12:31 AM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “Tilley is a bad choice. They are to heavy and do not dry quickly at all. You want a hat you can stuff in your pocket and that you can soak with water in a stream when it's hot. I have a Tilley and I haven't worn it since I got the OR Sombrero!” 9:43:01 AM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “Well folks, thank you for all the good advice. I will be buying something this weekend. Again thanks.” 1:00:59 PM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “I second the boonie hat. Check the surplus stores, or go to U.S. Cavalry or Brigade Quartermaster. About 12.99 for the mil. spec in your choice of colors/camos, as well as hot weather all-cotton, or nyco and polycotton blends in certain colors. My olive drab has enough brim to shade, without being so big as to get in the way of a pack behind my head. Very comfortable and crushable.” 1:14:32 PM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “OR Sombrero works for me.” 2:38:40 PM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “get an Austrailian oilskin hat. THey are waterproof, foldable, and the make you look like Paul Hogan.” 8:46:44 PM 4/02/01 RE: need a good hat “I like the sequel River Rhat hat. It is a ballcap knockoff, but with extra long bill, mesh sides for good ventilation, some kind of foil-like high tech stuff on top to reflect back some of the sun, and has a (removal) cape to protect the back of the neck and top of the ears.” 3:07:12 PM 4/04/01 RE: need a good hat “Boonierat says booniehat. I also like a bandana when it's hot out.” 5:15:38 PM 4/04/01 RE: need a good hat “My Tilly is also on the shelf, too heavy & doesn't dry well. OR Sombrero is my hat of choice for last couple of years. Waterproof, can easily stuff it away, weighs only ounces. Has a lining that makes my head sweat though, so it's not perfect. Haven't found anything better yet but still looking.” 6:15:53 PM 4/04/01 “Man I scored a great deal the other week. I got a columbia boony hat for $7. It's made of the light weight nylon stuff my other favorite hats are made of and it has a colling mesh ring in it. Cha Ching! ”8:48:45 AM 9/03/05
