ballsac,

You're not asking properly. "What's the best socks?" sounds dumb.

Try out some thorlos. My buddy and I got some. The threads at the toes always caused us some blisters. Not with these. The threads are hardly discernable, but I do wonder if they will hold up as long. Thus far they are doing fine and I get no blisters.

When I wore mid-weight hiking boots on the trail, I always doubbled up (liners under either Thorlos or Smart Wool socks)

On my next trip, I plan on wearing the new trailrunners I just got.

For those of you that have switched from boots to trail runners, do you still wear a liner sock, or can you hike with out them?

I've never used liners. *shrugging*

I like Smart Wools too. I like that they come in different sizes. I use the cycling Smart Wools in the summer. Thinner, breathe nicely.

(I only wear trail runners)

Bridgedale Hiker socks are what I've always used with trail runners

note with Bridgedales use of liners is contraindicated

Wk, It would depend on your shoes size. What is your shoe size? :)

The Thor-lo factory and outlet store is like twenty minutes from the house and I love their products.

I haven't had blisters with their socks, I have used the wool/man-made blend since 1994 as a forest ranger and now with the Patrol.

They hold up well and the cushion on the balls (of your feet, who doesnt like cushioned balls?) makes your feet last longer with a heavier load.

--P.s. If you are ever passing through Statesville, NC on I40, their outlet is at exit 151 in the strip mall besides the dreaded Wal-Mart

I don't know what's best, but I use SmartWool hiking socks and liners. They have worn well and worked well. I am big on dry socks. I hate it when my feet get wet.
