What's the best GPS unit? “Which?” 3:39:54 PM 4/04/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “i give up!” 3:40:57 PM 4/04/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? 5:13:07 PM 4/04/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? 8:30:16 PM 4/04/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “http://joe.mehaffey.com: everything you ever wanted to know about GPS but were afraid to ask. I got a Garmin eMap; haven't actually used it in the backcountry yet, but it seems pretty cool.” 2:59:18 PM 4/05/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “The Garmin eMap is hard to beat. I've had mine for over a year. The last few revisions to the software really made it a great trail GPS. Software works well enough. Simple to upload and download stuff. It comes with built in roadmap of the US (and interstate services information). But loadable topo maps are great. 8M chip is plenty. I can store most of the SoCal mountains and the Eastern Sierra topo maps with 8M. 2 AA lithium batteries lasted me a week on the last llama trip. Seems to lock on easy and stay locked on.” 10:25:12 PM 4/05/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “I'm beginning to think my Garmin 12CX is outdated... but I like it, I've learned how to use it well, and it coordinates well with my TOPO! GPS. I don't feel I need the road maps, city stuff and so forth... Out in the backcountry, I don't spect I'll be running into much of that. It's waterproof, light when I use lithiums, and lasts a long time on the trail.” 12:37:58 AM 4/06/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “obi - You have a great GPS unit. My Garmin 38 got ruined on the first llama trip. the eMap was a replacement. Now I am spoiled.” 2:02:27 AM 4/06/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “Any GPS nuts out there check out the (soon to be released) new Garmin GPS V yet? That thing is da'bomb!” 9:26:20 AM 9/25/01 RE: What's the best GPS unit? “I love my Garmin. Lots of new stuff every year, I should upgrade” 9:31:27 AM 9/25/01
