Too much gossip, too much concern about what others do,inablity for folks to be honest or to try to solve problems. They'd rather just bad mouth you when your gone. As you folks may notice I tend to speak my mind,this hasnt helped me win the "most popular employee" award. Enough whinning.

I actually try to avoid talk about work all together(while at work), its bad enough i have to do it,let alone talk about it too.”

You should know, or you will learn, in the trades f***ing with each other is the favorite diversion. As an engineer I get an endless stream of it when I'm on the floor. Let your skin grow a little thicker and maybe give a little s**t back, they'll respect that.

“One of my proudest moments was when I was the engineering project manager for the UAW guys moving a big line between plants. The lead electrician was a girl 6' 300# who could easily kick most asses and had the corresponding personality (on the surface). I treated her with respect and took her s**t in fun and we got along. I came by one morning and in front of the whole group she and the others had the plant engineer in tears (honest) and when she saw me coming she gives me a big smile and says "good morning dear". I got a LOT of work out of that plant 'cause I could get along.

It took me a long time to learn that.”

“Lesubtil, I was definetly kidding about the drinking. I dont mind the games in general. The big problem is that my instructor is very tight with mgmt,someone has been repeating and twisting my words and this has caused me to be hauled "upstairs" for a scolding about stuff I dont even know. And with a $1.7 million dollar budget cut this year I am a little on edge,to say the least.

“I'll tell you one thing, you can't be as big an A-Hole as this chick (and I use the term loosly) in my chem group. All she does is sit on her ass and whine about us not working fast enough or how she thinks we screwed stuff up. Then she gets mad because we ask her to do the prelabs every time. I threatened to walk out of lab today (since I'm the only one who actually works on the lab.She told me to go ahead. The only thing that kept me from doing it is that I knaw I need a good solid lab grade and I don't want to hurt to other two members of the group. Ahhhh”

Is it possible to avoid shop gossip? Is is possible to not be a part of the shop soap opera? I don't think so. If you speak your mind, you're an opinionated a-hole. If you keep a closed mouth and don't say anything, you're stuck up, too good and know it all. If you share the opinion of others, you're an a-kissing ladder climber. You can't win, so be yourself and leave others to their games.
