The Nother Inventure Story “Well, me and my daddy went to the nother inventure. We got in the truck and I took a nap and waked up by side the river. Mr. Rad was ther and we sayed "hey", then we taked the nother nap. When we waked up agin, Ms. OM got ther and we got in the botes and started peddlin. It was nite time, but when it got day the air was still dark and smoky and I could not see NUTHIN. One time I could not even see ever buddy in the bote and I thought I was in the nother bote all by my self cept I could still smell ther stinky butts so I knowed they was close. We got to Cumby Eyland in a minit and got out of the botes and put them on the dert and put on our pakpaks and started walkin in the woods. Cumby has LOTS of aminals. I was walkin mindin my own bisness when I smelled pakpak horses. I looked in the woods and seen them! They seen me, to, and came RUNNIN UP THE RODE to me and said "hay happy nice Sarabelle - do you wanna play with us?" And I said "No - can you see that I am walkin in the woods with my pakpak?" Then I seen that they was not werrin pakpaks and I sayed "Where is yer pakpaks and peeple on yer baks?" They sayed that they do not got no pakpaks or peeple cuz they are WILD HORSES! They are wild horses that live in the woods all the time like a wild aminal! They was nice, tho. I wish I could play with them but I was busy walkin. Then, I seen somethin. Know what? It was a armerdiller! I walked over to it and he said "Hey happy nice Sarabelle". And I said "Hey happy nice armerdiller". He was CUTE and not ded with a lots of guts gettin ate by a buzzerd like the nother one I seen. The nother time, somethin was standin in the rode and I sayed "OHMAGAWD! What is THAT?!" And my daddy sayed "It is a hog." And I sayed "oh." In a minit we made our tents and sleeped good. At the mornin, a not nice ranger came to our tents and said "Do not get no dogs aroun here! Go home!" So we started walkin back to the botes. Then, we met a happy nice man that said "Make yer tents in my grass". So, we made our tents in his grass by side the river and Ms. OM made me a birfday cake! Then, the nother horses walked by our tents. We seen a ratcoon byside the river, to, but he was eatin oyster rock spam and did not try to get my food. The nother aminals I seen was dogfins, grabs, gaters, bellycans, and lots of nothers that I can not think about now. When it was day time agin, we walked to the botes and peddled back to the trucks. Ms. OM and Mr. Rad went home, but me and my daddy went to Flowerda for more inventures...” 6:26:56 PM 4/05/01 RE: The Nother Inventure Story “Great report Sarabelle. I often feel that if I am able to enjoy a trip nearly as much as my loyal poochie(PatchyG) than I will be successful. Such enjoyable companions to watch on the trail...you don't miss a thing! PatchyG could tell some stories...if I let her use the computer anymore, that is. she's still being punished for all the bills she racked up from last time... Be happy that yer daddy still let's you play, Belle! I know we all sure appreciate your fresh perspective. ;o) (yer daddy's fresh perspective is quite another matter, entirely. heheheh)” 8:45:36 AM 4/06/01 RE: The Nother Inventure Story “Great report sarabelle! Your trip reports are so much better than your Dad's. Many games of gimmedat to you. Ask yer Daddy if he ever got the package I sent him. He hasn't answered my emails. I guess you won't let him near the computer.” 10:05:02 AM 4/06/01 RE: The Nother Inventure Story “"Flowerda" was quite an adventure, too. 4/02/02 We left Crooked River SP (where we launched for Cumberland), and headed straight for the "Redneck Riviera". We arrived at St. George Island, FL pretty late, so I had few options other than closing a bar. Afterward, we drove back out the bridge a ways to an earthen spot where I was able to park and fish awhile. No luck fishin'. We crashed in the truck. Next morning, we drove into East Point (at the "foot" of the bridge) and had breakfast while I thought about what to do. I decided to return to the island and look into St. George SP. They do allow dogs, so I got a campsite. Around 11 a.m., we launched the boat into Appalachicola Bay for some fishing and sightseeing. St. George SP is quite nice. It occupies the easern end of the island - it has 14 miles of beach, and averages less than a mile wide. At the widest part of the park, there are a couple hundred acres of pines, but the rest of the park is rolling sand dunes - reaching from the gulf to the bay - that are sparsely dotted with scrub and sea oats. We tracked along the shoreline toward the eastern end of the island, but I did not anticipate reaching the tip - about 12 miles from the boatramp. Fishing wise, I mostly trolled with jigs, but dropped anchor a couple times to bottom fish with fresh shrimp. I caught a total of one catfish. I spoke with a fishing guide at the boatramp - his clients had caught only one undersized red drum that morning. Must've been the weather. We saw a mother bald eagle and her two adolescent offspring. I beached the boat to try for a closeup photo of one of the young ones, but I doubt it will amount to much. There were tons of other birds, and of course dolphins were ever present. By 7 p.m., we reached the tip of the island. I dropped anchor and fished for Spanish mackerel, but no catch. The fishing was really off. There had been a breeze at our back all day that picked up considerably by late afternoon, and rowing against it to return was not an option. So, I decided to leave the boat at the end of the island and walk back to the truck. Though it was cloudy by now, the moon was able to illuminate the huge dunes on either side of the thick, sandy road. It was a surreal environment. The pure white dunes looked like snowy hills dotted with sagebrush. Upon reaching the truck, we drove back to the campsite. I was exhausted, and opted to sleep in the truck rather than pitch the tent. It was about 2 a.m. We were up by dawn, and the wind had picked-up even stronger. I was not sure what to do about retrieving the boat. I went to the mainland for breakfast and thinkin'. Eureka! I had been to a bait store early the previous morning... and I remembered that they rented boats. So, I went back and got myself a motor boat! It was an open hull oyster boat, about 16 feet long with a 25 horespower outboard motor. The wind was strong, and I was a little skiddish about our safety. The bay is very shallow, but the waves were quite large. The wind was coming out of the south, and we had to travel southwestward for 10 miles from East Point to the island (straight line). That put the waves crashing into the starboard bow. I was drenched before we even reached the end of the harbor channel. The open bay was tempestuous - the small boat pitched, rolled, and yawled like a toy. There were times when I cut completely back on the throttle just before crashing into really large waves. Poor Belle was absolutely miserable. Though I was concerned about adding extra miles (and using extra fuel) I opted to turn due south in the hope that the island would give us some protection from the wind - and it did... a little. I got to within 1000 yards of the island, and turned eastward - toward the end of the island. Finally, we reached the end, and there, right where I left it the night before, was our "leetle bote". The trip back put the waves at the port stern, which made for a much gentler ride. I decided to beeline straight across the bay for the tiny East Point harbor. We "surfed" back. The little rowboat towed easily - we got back without a hitch. We coverd about 22 miles in 3-1/2 hours on the roundtrip. There was exactly one drop left in the fuel tank. It was 12:30 p.m. We were home in GA about an hour after dark. goooooooooooood times!” 2:42:45 PM 4/06/01 RE: The Nother Inventure Story “AmyG, I bet patchyG was hanging out at www.dogtoys.com. She was intriqued by "your" ducks - she went after them w/o any warning. She managed to scrape a feather off the surface before I could get her back to the edge... OM - Nice pictures! The river shots remind me of how perilous the first leg of the journey was... Then again, NOTHING could have stopped us! I got my first camera developed. I wasn't real thrilled with the pictures, but I'll get some of them posted one of these days. Thanks for the link.” 10:45:51 AM 4/09/01 RE: The Nother Inventure Story “Who the !$%& is dumb enough to pretend to be GW, oh wait maybe it's somone who pretends to be a dog!” 11:38:41 AM 4/09/01 RE: The Nother Inventure Story “BTW - I talked to a couple that were taking out when we were.
