Will keep ya posted!” 10:10:54 AM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Thanks, barlo! I couldn't find that site yesterday. I emailed them, too. I'll let you know if I hear anything, also.” 11:22:20 AM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Here is what they say on their web site: This is to advise you of a potential problem with the StopTop accessory carbon cartridge that comes packaged with the PUR Explorer, Voyageur, and Scout microbiological water purifiers. The StopTop serves as a water bottle adaptor plus improves the taste of outdoor water. However, testing has revealed variations in the carbon used in the StopTop that could interfere with the purifier's ability to kill viruses in outdoor (untreated) water. This situation does not affect the purifier's ability to remove cysts and bacteria. Owners of PUR water purifiers may still use them. For full anti-virus effectiveness, we advise consumers follow usage instructions as detailed in "How To Handle Difficult or Extreme Water Conditions" section of the owners manual. Briefly, the process involves four steps: 1. Disconnect the StopTop carbon cartridge and pump water into a temporary container at a rate of less than 10 strokes per minute. 2. Remove the inlet hose from the water source and pump out any water remaining within the purifier (or until air comes out of the output hose). 3. Place the inlet hose into the temporary container and pump water into your water bottle at a rate of less than 10 strokes per minute. 4. Let the water stand for 20 minutes before consumption. We are sorry for this inconvenience. However, our goal is to ensure that you always receive the maximum performance from your purifier.” 11:25:31 AM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? 11:42:47 AM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “You're not an Explorer, a Voyageur, or a Scout, so why didn't you get the PUR HIKER!!!!!!” 11:55:19 AM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Ispoke to Pur this am and replacement filter are not goin to be available till july and they are sendin me a filter to go into my scout. It will be only a water filter, not purifer! So I willneed to add idione tablets. So, Whats the use of carring a filter? Seems like I will be goin back to carrying extra fuel cause boilin works.Does not matter where you are! What ya think!” 12:23:48 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “jerbear, I'll share my First Need at Fiery Gizzard. It's a purifier. All I ask is that you help me carry my 9 pound tent. Just Kidding! I will share my purifer, though. :o)” 12:36:30 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Thats sweet!9#tent, Sleeps 1. LOL” 12:39:46 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “I'm BIG! LOL Naw, I just haven't gotten around to getting a smaller, lighter tent. That should be my next purchase. I sure don't mind sharing my purifer. :o)” 12:46:09 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Well, I guess,, I could,, share my--- tent! op!LOL” 12:52:17 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “;>)” 12:53:17 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Im sorry, could not resist!shucks!lol-BBS Yo” 2:11:47 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “Well, I think that since stories of cryptosporidium infection are promanent, and iodine won't kill it, and since viral infections are almost unheard of... I'd rather bring a microfilter than iodine. Can anybody contradict this logic? Not a challange; I'd really like to know!” 4:10:36 PM 4/06/01 RE: pur scout recall? “And of course boiling is the best, but I don't want to stop by a stream mid-hike and break out my kitchen just to fill up on Gatoraide.” 4:12:09 PM 4/06/01
