**PAYING** for Photopoint!!View MessagesRE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “My ISP provides as part of my services 100mb of storage space in a personal web directory on their servers. I don't know why I didn't think of this, but I'm eventually going to migrate everything over there on my own web page. It's not fancy, and it's far from done, but it's free. 10:27:24 PM 4/11/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Looks good, Hobbit! But...... errrr... you have to have html skills to do that, right?? EEK!!! :-)” 11:38:54 PM 4/11/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Really special photos Hobbit. Nice work.” 1:01:11 AM 4/12/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I won't pay for it. I saw a site called Zing.com that deals with digital photos. I don't know if you can scan and send photos or not.” 1:13:20 AM 4/12/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “No skills required Lizs, I used MSWord. It's been years since I created web pages using HTML tags. Too lazy for that when there are so many good programs to do it for you. Many of them free.” 7:20:45 AM 4/12/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Good start Hobbit. MSN offers some sort of webpage/space deal I think. Anyone know about that? I might look into it myself.” 7:38:29 AM 4/12/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “ Putting together your own web site is a fun way to go. And, it's pretty simple to do these days. My site, Promised Consider HostPro as a web host. They have a starter package w/ 200MB for $40 bucks a month, I think.” 2:06:03 AM 4/13/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “If I send you all my photos, will you make me a web site?” 9:26:23 AM 4/13/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Until I figure out how to do my website (www.schaffnerfamily.com) I'm going to use webshots, which is free. Just up loaded some small/low quality scanned slides. It went smoothly. We'll see. Check the site, photos are sentimental not art. http://community.webshots.com/user/vann_schaffner” 12:16:26 PM 4/14/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I couldn't figure out bulletproof ftp and cuteftp hangs up when I try and install it, so I've about finished pulling my photos off photopoint one by one. I've got them around on a zip, but no zip hooked up right now. Webshots is where I'll be for sure. Much like photopoint in some ways, the upload software seems ok and I've been using the galleries and screensaver for some time.” 9:26:26 PM 4/14/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “keetn, just so happens I do web sites on the side. $60.00 an hour. For you, $59.99. 8^) Seriously, consider investing in FrontPage or MacroMedia's Dreamworks. These software packages can get to be fun (if you're a computer hack like me). You'll also need image processing software like Adobe photoshop and an FTP utility like WS_FTP Pro. The way I look at it is if you're carrying on in life and you're doing these trips, document what you have to look back on and share. - IMO, to do this, your own web site is the way to go. And besides, doing the web site thing is part of the trip itself (which makes it last once you're home).” 12:48:27 AM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Tell me more about Dreamworks. I have FrontPage and I'm not impressed. I prefer to use a text editor or MSWord.” 7:46:04 AM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I found a new home for my pictures. Fototime lets you transfer pictures right from your PhotoPoint account. You have to re-type your captions (what a pain!) but at least it works! So far I've only sent one folder from PhotoPoint, and I created a folder for a trip I took Saturday. To visit my new album at Fototime, just enter my email at the Guest Login: kleetn@backpacker.com” 12:37:17 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Dreamworks? I'm having Spielberg delusions. Pardon me. DreamWeaver is a pretty powerful web development suite. If you want an image processing package to interface with this, you migh want Fireworks too. These are the high end equivalent to FrontPage and MS Imager, only Dreamweaver and Fireworks studio is mostly for professional use. It's about $600 for the package, but was $850 a few months ago at Fry's. Supposedly, the software interfaces well with MS Office. I think you can download their free trial at: www.macromedia.com These are the folks that bring us Flash too. For Promised Land I use FrontPage since it was easier to learn. You can publish HTML with Flash, but this software forces you to look at HTML development in a completely different way. You have to work with layers, scenes, and a timeline for each page and then you export to HTML for uploading. The software makes you think like an animator.” 4:54:31 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “keetn, what kind of mushroom was that? Kind of a mushroom on steroids or somethin'. Pretty bizarre. At a glance, Fototime looks like a better host than photopoint. I suppose capacity and cost are pretty important factors though.” 5:03:30 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “It's free, tekapo....and I have no idea what kind of shroom that is, but it's sure cool looking!” 6:25:23 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Ok, somebody on another site looked at it and said "It's Amanita Muscaria, technically classified as poisenous but it is one of the most pshchoactive and hallucenigenic mushrooms on the planet. Historically used by shamans and trippers it has quite a cult following. Do a search on it and you'll find all kinds of really wierd stuff." Now he tells me!” 6:39:39 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “That explains a lot about kleetn, doesn't it now?!” 9:50:05 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Nice pics Kleetn.” 10:39:47 PM 4/16/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Just moved my photo's to Fototime. Kleetn, you must login as a guest to view? This is a try at linking to the guest page. These are pics from an early trip that have already been shared here. Just trying out the link.” 8:31:03 AM 4/17/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “No baume66, that's one way to view them if no link is provided (and I didn't give one). BTW, I enjoyed your pics, thanks for sharing!” 9:17:17 AM 4/17/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Right back at you. Where is that Rattlesnake place?” 12:01:45 PM 4/17/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “It's about 30 minutes east of Seattle, near the town of North Bend. I am getting my PhotoPoint pics moved over as I find time. Click here to see what I've got so far.” 12:16:32 PM 4/17/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Just read through the unread back e-mails and found our note about photopoint...off to find another free site! Thanks for the pointers there kleetn. I'll check 'em out. About what photoworks...I used them from about '92 through '99. When they were a smaller outfit, they did a pretty good job w/ quality control. As they grew bigger, they got much worse. I've found pinholes in my negatives.” 12:05:57 PM 4/18/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Hey, SARBoy! We haven't heard from you or Trailartist since like February, but I guess since you're newlyweds and all... How the heck was your snowshoe trip? Also, I checked out Zing.com and I kinda like the features they have. I don't know if they were on the list I submitted earlier, but definitely worth a look if you need a new home.” 12:56:33 PM 4/18/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “SARboy, good to see you back. Do you have any pics of your Rainier trip? Check out fototime.com like kleetn mentioned. You can move whole albums at one time instead of picture by picture.” 4:46:18 PM 4/18/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “SARBoy, I was thinking you were busy with your new job. I never got to ask you what you were doing now. If it's not too personal to say here, I'd like to know. I hope you are happy with it. Right before your Rainier trip, I went to Hurricane Ridge and they just plowed the snow, so I was able to walk around with boots. It was real beautiful up there. I wish I could have joined you on the trip, but I am not equipped for winter camping or hiking.” 5:05:59 PM 4/18/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Uh oh, something has changed at photopoint. Lookingglass says you can't transfer whole albums anymore. He is checking into it. If I find out anything, I'll let everyone know.” 11:45:25 PM 4/18/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “Thanks for the welcome back... The trip to Rainier didn't happen...couple of reasons, but it boiled down to neither of us were in a state where we'd come back from the weekend healthy. Yeah, Kleetn, still being newlyweds...our goal is to be saying that for, oh, the rest of our lives! Thanks for the thoughts on the new job Lipstick. I'm loving it! The 1.5 hour bus ride each way really kills time at home (explains why I haven't posted much). I'm working for the Gates Foundation doing computer support for the recipients of computers through their library program. Lovin' the work, the people, and even better, I feel like the job has a positiive impact on people (unlike working for the legislature, where the idea was to separate people from their money!)” 11:08:56 AM 4/19/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “SARBoy, I used to have a 1-1/2 hr trip by train to NYC where I worked. I filled the time reading books and enjoyed my traveling time that way. Your new job sounds great. I've heard about the Gate's donating computers to libraries on tv. It's nice to work on a worthwhile project helping others. That job sounds perfect for you. Say hello to Trailartist for me.” 3:15:08 PM 4/19/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I just received an e-mail from Lookingglass about Photopoint & fototime. This was the message from fototime. Photopoint has just blocked access from fototime, so you can't download albums anymore, the b@stards. Fototime says to use FTP (file transfer protocol) to download from Photopoint, then use photoalbum to publish them at fototime. Lookingglass said that FTP is a program you can download. It's free for awhile, then you have to pay for it.” 3:25:22 PM 4/19/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “FTP has been around forever and will always be free. Maybe he was talking about a shareware program that puts a more user-friendly face on FTP.” 3:55:31 PM 4/19/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “kleetn, he could have meant the shareware program. Lookingglass knows more about this stuff than me. Thanks for clearing that up. Now I really don't want to use photopoint, since they are trying to make it hard to get pics off their site. That's really low.” 4:26:31 PM 4/19/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “If any of you moved your pictures from PhotoPoint to Zing.com, get ready to move again!!! As of July 1, the Zing is dead! Long live the Zing! Wheeeee! Ain't life on the net fun???” 10:58:58 AM 6/14/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I didn't pay Photopoint and still post photos there - sometimes procrastination pays off.” 11:30:56 AM 6/14/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I haven't read this entire thread and somebody may have already mentioned this but you could sign up for a free passport account and they let you create your own photo pages. http://communities.msn.com/pictureit” 1:30:01 PM 6/14/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I have a question for anyone using one of these on-line photo deals: Do you have APS film developed. If so, how does the cost vary? I checked out ofoto.com and it says they develop APS. However, where it discusses the price to order prints, the 4 x 7 and 4 x 11 size options (APS)aren't listed as options... I'm confused. Thanks for the help!” 1:53:24 PM 7/23/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I use regular film and a scanner, but recently started getting CDs. I love the time I save from not scanning, but the cost goes up for me. I paid the Photopoint intro price for 2000 photos. When I got to 2237, I got a e-mail that said pay $9.95 in 10 days or I'll get locked out. I moved 237 photos. For every 250 photos it will cost me another $9.95. I still have the photopoint but I won't go over 2000 photos. I'm with Webshots now. I like the slide show feature. I still don't have Webshots linked to my webpage. We use Fireworks and Dreamweaver on my webpage too. SnowDude is the expert on that. I just add the photos, but I'm learning to do other stuff with it.” 10:49:37 PM 7/23/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I have not given them any money yet but I am curious if others are still able to link to my photopage. I fear if I was to look at them the will lock me out and others as well. Or do they just lock up all the photos until one was to pay?” 8:01:00 AM 7/24/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “I haven't paid them anything and my photos are still there. I can't add to them without paying. I don't know about linking a photo from there. Here goes a try at that.... 9:39:43 AM 7/24/01 RE: **PAYING** for Photopoint!! “HA! Guess that means unless you cough up the $$$, you can't link to the photos.” 9:40:52 AM 7/24/01
