Pete.. I'm right now I'm thinking of heading back Monday so I can get my son to school Tuesday. Leaving my car at Crawford would be the easiest thing to do in that case.

What I've gotta wrestle with is if I feel right putting him on a bus back to Boston the night before he starts school. He is 15 and he could stay with his Mom Monday night... so I've got a dilemma. Right now I'm thinking I should head back with him.

That was the same one used on the cover of Southern Outdoors Magazine.

RE: New Hampshire's White mountains in September
that's what happened to my foot! I wasn't ever gunna tell anyone the real story because it sounds so dumb. I mean when have you ever heard of a gaitor attack in Jersey before. In light of the new tangent this thread has taken I feel compelled to tell the true story.

Ya see I was about 6 years old and I was using one of those small plastic pools for a boat, floating down the swollen creek in our backyard during a major hurricane. I went into a culvert (tunnel) under the road and while under there I got bumped out of the pool when I hit something that I thought was a rock.

I quickly started to climb back into the craft when all of a sudden I was grabbed from behind by a gaitor! It must have been 25 feet long. It got almost my whole leg into its mouth before I knew what was happening. I guickly responded by attacking back with my 10" bowie knife stabbing several times into it's brain. It laid limp hunched in my craft.
I then emerged from the other side of the culvert but it was too late for I had lost most of my left foot. I jumped out and wrapped the hanging flesh with reeds. I then gutted the beast and hoisted it up over my shoulder and went home. My parents wanted to take me to the hospital but I was more interested in making myself some boots. I still have those boots today. I had them dipped in bronze and they hang on my wall in the living room.

You can wear gaitors on your feet. Just not Gators.
Gotors on your feet would be bad.

Unless they are Gator Boots. Then you could use gaitors for your gators.

I did have a ferocious encounter with two particularly ferocious ones on Saddleback Mountain. I managed to dispatch one, and have it stuffed and mounted in the living room near the fireplace.

Jerbear: I like that theory... that I'm really BacPac. Of course, he would be trolling as PedXing, since BacPac showed up first.

If I'd thought up Dr. Laura, I'd do it, after all I did Plain Hiker. Someone posted as "Satan" on another outdoor board. Now that might be the ultimate troll name!
