I've been checking out this site for a little while, but I'm relatively new to TT. For those who want to know: I'm a 39 yr old Capricorn elementary school teacher from mid-coast Maine. I followed the Grateful Dead around for years, and to a lesser extent, Phish. This provided balance for an intense professional life. Last summer, I began seeking solace in the woods of Baxter State Park and fell in love with hiking and backpacking. So, that's the brief version of my story. Hello to all you interesting characters in TT land.” 11:33:10 AM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “Hmmmm... we are all getting gun-shy from welcoming what amounts to trolls.......However, in a good-hearted extension of Trailtalk congeniality, "welcome." I've been camping, hiking, and backpacking since I was a child and find that the only thing that keeps me centered is nature.” 3:47:11 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “Oh , I have no use for Mr Bush the younger.” 3:47:51 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “Nice to meet you all! Vix is a nickname for Vickie, by the way. I do have a question...I've seen quite a few references to trolls, but I'm not sure what the meaning is here. From the context I've asssumed that it refers to aliases...am I correct? It does seem like alot of fun around here.” 4:05:12 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “I aspire to be a hiker bum. So far nothing I've done in life prepares me very well for that. But hey, gotta have a dream. Before all that, nothing counts.” 4:48:59 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “I've added bio info under my username account.” 6:08:56 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “Troll: Somebody who posts really controversial stuff just to get people mad and make them lash out. Also see H2SO4 facemelter, Wild Child, Wild Chlid. Usually they have a real identity that they post normal stuff under and another that they troll under. That is except for Tarpie/waft/WC/ect. Then all his identities are trolls.” 6:11:28 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “mines a phoenix 4.0 release 6.0.9” 6:13:34 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “Solitary Hiker also likes pictures of half-naked, large buzzoomed, teen-age ladies. Btw, there is a new troll in town, I think his name is boyer and he posted a ridiculus bio, so having a bio doesn't matter anymore. Welcome Vix ...I'm rather new here myself.” 10:32:14 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “OmaHiker, your exclamation point caught me. Divorce happens. It is real tough, but it can really be for the better. My mother has been divorced twice, and is married again, and is now happier than she's been in 25 years (or so she says), and I believe it. My father is also on his third marriage and is as happy as ever to. I don't want to sound like I'm pitying you or anything like that, just saying that it's not necessarily a bad thing. Ok, maybe this is akward, or inappropriate. Sorry, didn't mean it to be. Just thought since we are talking and sharing about ourselves, I'd bring it up. That's it.” 10:33:45 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “I think most (but not all) people in the civilized world have been divorced at least once. At least in the last 20 years, anyway. My mother has been married five times, and my dad three times. Divorce comes with "progress". I'm only on my second. Hmmmmmm. Nah.........” 10:44:46 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “Retired electrician [40 years] Married 45yr. to a patient woman 3 kids and 7 grandkids Started backpacking when being gay meant you were happy and a joint was a bad place to go.” 11:50:32 PM 4/08/01 RE: Bios “LOL there Old Timer! Born and raised in and around our nation?s capital, I relocated to Saint Crackersburg, Florida, where I have resided for over a decade now. I?m starting to like it here, so I might stay. Haven?t found much time for hiking these last few years (wife, kid, house, job, blah, blah, blah) so I?m currently restricted to dreaming, some day hikes, gear hording, and car camping. Things are starting to turn around, but that?s another story? Love paddling too. And fishing.” 8:33:27 AM 4/09/01 RE: Bios “Hi all, Many of you already know me. All of you should. I've been watching this site for a while now and find your discussions on politics quite interesting. I personally love outdoor sports. I love to run, hike, and backpack. If you've ever seen me slightly unprepared for a press conference or something, it's because I was out hiking and enjoying myself.” 10:35:57 AM 4/09/01 RE: Bios “I'm Tommy. Anything else you need to know can be shared over a beer. You do drink beer, don't you?” 12:22:44 PM 4/09/01
