T...
Sweetheart..

Only certain color combinations are readable on certain color backgrounds.

You're asking too much with the red and yellow colored fonts.

I have a new llama.
It is not red.
It is not yellow.

I am not a troll.
I am crabby.
I don't care who knows it.

Any female over the age of 45 begins to get crabby as gravity takes over everything useful.

Hey, I didn't know there was a bio page here.

49, single father of two great kids 14 and 16 (but not hikers) employed by a "large western land management agency doing real estate stuff, good job, gets me all oround AZ and NM and some other states on occasion. Hiking and bp'ing abouit 4 years now, especially with some of the other AZ folks here. Live in Ahwatukee, AZ (Phx 'burb), I want to give Dubya a chance, but he is blowing it big time, what a mistake. I hike around AZ, southern UT, and once a year force myself into the crowded, dirty, bug infested, cold, windy wet, ugly, awful, Wind River Mtns in WY. Always looking for serious bping partners, and am up for 3-5 nite trips most anywhere w/i a day or two from here.

Love this forum, and the smart @ss posts. Good sense of humor here, don't lose it.

RE: Bios
I think this post might help explain (but maybe I'm just a little shell-shocked):

Nice to meet you all! Vix is a nickname for Vickie, by the way. I do have a question...I've seen quite a few references to trolls, but I'm not sure what the meaning is here. From the context I've asssumed that it refers to aliases...am I correct?

It does seem like alot of fun around here.

RE: Bios
Okay, so I've been told I must add my bio here, so, here goes...from what I've read, I think I may be the baby here (I usually am), I'm 23, live in Toronto (Canada, that is), I work at an ad agency during the day and go to the University of Toronto at night. I love Toronto but hate the fact that I'm so far from nature, real nature. As a kid I did a lot of camping and hiking with m parents and just lately have really started to miss it, thus...why I'm here. I'm so anxious to get out there, start with some day hiking and weekend trips, eventually working my way up to some extended backpacking treks. I'm still trying to figure life out and I'm hoping getting back to nature will help.

RE: Bios
Sorry folks, but there's no mystery here...I've just been out of town visiting my family. I'm a teacher on vacation this week and I like to take advantage of the quiet!

While I have posted on a couple of other threads, you won't find me jumping into the fray on every thread I read. When I have something to say, I say it or, in this case, write it, but I'm generally a mellow and quiet person.

No, Violin, I'm not a troll though I certainly understand why you think so...there have been references aplenty, which is why I asked the question.

And thanks, pekka...but I have to tell you that I got sick getting my ears pierced. My aversion to needles is so strong that I can say without a whisper of a doubt that I will never get a tattoo!

RE: Bios
Did I write that page?
I wish I had that kind of time. I don't even post much on this (or any) board. I do, however, make time for at least one hike a week, with one or two exceptions in a year. There are more than enough trails here in Hudson Valley to visit a new section each time without repetition in a lifetime.

Other than hiking, my life has been mostly computers, math and stat. I have a history going back to single-user mainframes and microcomputers with 4-bit CPU and cassette storage. But I am only 27, if I count only the time I have lived in US. I assume most posters on this thread are doing the same.

Hi, I saw this thread, and since I started a discussion here, I thought I'd share who I am.

I'm 33, single, and unemployed! I live in coastal Georgia, sorta near Savannah. I do a lot of recreational activities outdoors, but am not an expert in any one activity. Sometimes, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, I grab my backpack and head north for the hills for a few days.

Baume 66 told me there's a celebrity Jim Flink of Kansas City, but I'm not him. Here's a link to a picture of me: I'm the one one the right. The woman on the left is my sister Julie, and the big guy in the center is her husband Robert.

51 year old chemist turned patent attorney, loving Boise ID. I check the posts now and then, ask a question once in a while. Hiked a lot in the Sierra Nevada of CA, climbed some in Yosemite in college, then 20 years in the Cascades and Olympics, now exploring the mountains of Idaho.

I teach college classes in backpacking and winter survival, and share my teaching materials with interested persons.

The wife likes to hike, thank God. Daughters 21, 18, and 10, son 5 who may be my hiking partner for many years. Girls are welcome too, but once they start to like boys, forget it.

RE: Bios
Hi All

This site was recommended to me by one of your members, I was told you didn't take your selves too seriously, loved the outdoors and were a bunch of sick puppys ( that was my observation) I think I'll like it here.

I've been an avid backpacker, climber, caver and backcountry skier for over 30 years. I moved to Redding CA over 20 years ago from the Bay Area to get closer to the mountains. I have been married to the same gal for 31 years, no kids.

I sold backpacking, skiing and climbing gear in Redding for around 14 years and currently work as a wilderness guide/instructor for a youth program and I operate a small, guiding business.. I have also worked for SAR. for the last 16 years.

Because of the work I do I am gone for around 2 weeks a month, sometimes on very short notice, so if I don't respond to a post or seem to be MIA....I'm in the mountains!!!...coool huh. My ICQ # is 41842803

"The New Newbies Guide"

Welcome to the wild and crazy world of Trail Talk. In this guide, I will go over various terminology, and ways of the Trail Talk (TT) folk. Use this guide as a reference for any thing that you don't understand that goes on here. However, before I continue, I must warn you that this is one untamed site

SECTION A, Spelling and Grammar:
Always use your best spelling, and grammar. We have a few English teachers, and one professor, that post here. ACRONYMS must be capitalized if used, and please limit them to the very basic ones of LOL, and BTW, after that the TrailTalkinanes loose it. If you are brain dead, and need help, and training on the laws of basic English we have this web page for you.

SECTION B, Scientific stuff: When ever posting any thing that is very scientific, please have sources to back that up, and a link to a web page with the fact on it would be great. Most of the TT crowed are narrow-minded; if you find something hard to believe, don't expect them too. Oh' and one more thing, have that source reliable, "the national enquire" doesn't work here.

SECTION C, TROLLS: If you have not been accused of being a troll already, you have good luck today. Trolls are basically people that are out for attention, and they will again that attention by posting completely radical things, for only one purpose, the purpose of creating havoc. If that has not explained trolls well enough for you, we have this great web page that will aid you in you search for what the hell a troll is. The websites most infamous troll is Tarpy, he has posted under the aliases of Wild Child, Mantra, Jara, Tarp Rat, ATBackpacker. In the past, he hasn't post any thing worth while reading, however with in the past week he changed his name to CX, and has posted nothing but normal stuff, and I believe that he is trying to change his ways. We also have another troll, his name is Joe Moma, there are about 5 people with access to that name and post wild things under it.

SECTION D, HTML: You can use most HTML in at this site, just please don't go over bored with it. Matt, the Webmaster will change your post if you go to over bored, and he doesn't like us to post pictures often, because they slow down the site (and this site has enough technical problems as is). If you don't know much about HTML, well guess what, we have yet another great web page to educate you about HTML and how it all works.

SECTION E, Trail Talk Terminology: A Trail hoe, is a person that hikes a lot. A Trail Pimp is a person that makes up the trips for us to hike on. A Trail virgin is a person that has never been on an over night trip. A Trail B!tch is a person that hikes, and likes it, but doesn't do it as often as the hoes. A Troll, well I hope you know what that is by now. A Regular is a person that posts nearly every day. A thread is the topic that your are posting on. A Handle is your name, AKA Trail Name. A Lurker is a person that surfs the site, however they don't post often or at all. There's more but I just forgot it.

SECTION F, Bio's, Calendar, and Photo's: We have a web page with pics of us nuts on it. You can find most of us on the page, and many people that don't post any more. The older photos are at the top of the page, and the lattés ones are at the bottom. That web page is ran by Phil a TT regular, NOT Matt who is the web master. We also have a a bio's page, with all of are bio's. I don't know how accurate they are, but they are there. We also have a page with all of are upcoming events on it. We call it a calendar.

SECTION G, Instant Messaging (IM): Most of us have some for of IM, weather it be, ICQ, AIM, MSN IM, , and or Yahoo. Some of us use MSN, a slightly larger hand full of us use Yahoo, more of us use AIM (AIM RULES), and most of us use ICQ.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
This site crashes often so by a helmet, posting heavy HTML, or when ever Matt tries to make a change, it crashes. You will often get a line saying something about line 28, or line 26, don't worry about it. Its not you computer it's the crazy server. To survive here you are going to have to grow some thick skin. In conclusion I welcome you to the nut house, enjoy.
