“You'll have to set it up and tell me how the fly fits.
I used to swear by SD, but then they started to get chintzy about the amount of fabric they allowed the fly, and getting the thing to fit where it wasn't at least eight inches off the ground was nearly impossible.
I think they got a lot of complaints over the last several years, and cleaned up their act.
The original Clip Flashlite, of which I had one I bought in 1983, and loved dearly, was the best tent I'd ever had until I wore it out after about eight years.
I was not happy with the next two person tent I ordered from SD, and with the newer model (circa late 80's) Clip, SD had almost completely eliminated the vestibule.
Huh. Vestibule my false teeth.
It wasn't even big enough to hide your boots under when it rained.
I've noticed lately that the newer Clips have restored the vestibule somewhat.”

“Just got my Eureka Tetragon 7 for canoe camping (free standing) and I bought the internal frame backpack from Target Eddie Bauer while it was on sale. I still perfer my Kelty Zen for backing with Turtle, and if I'm solo the Cobra is the way to go.”

“pemsit--does that rainfly have a seam down the middle? If it does, you might want to seal it. I had an older version, 3 or 4 man, and was unhappily surprised by the rain water dripping onto my journal while sitting out a storm. No probs after sealing it.”

Mel the fly covers the tent almost right to the ground. There is maybe 1.5" of tent wall that shows after the fly is on and tight. Vestibule area is about 2.5'x4' enough room to drag some gear under it if the weather was really nasty.
I hope the weather is nice on our JMT trip ...I think falling asleep looking at all those stars through that mesh would be nice."

“pemsit, did you get the "large" black or the "medium" blue eddie bauer pack? Have you used it yet? I got the "expedition" on a whim when it was on sale and haven't been out with it yet. I did load it up and carry it around the house, and it seems like it will work OK.”

“I got a new tent on sale yesterday at a local outdoor store, Sunshine Mountaineering Denali. Anyone ever heard of it? Looks very similar to the Eureka Apex (not Apex XT, rainfly does not go down to the ground, but does have an 'overhang'). Weight was 5 pounds, advertised as 4 pounds 7 oz. A true two-man tent, 4.5' by 7.5' (approximate) but with no vestibule. The weight was a disappointment but I think I will keep it, because it does have aluminum poles with very short sections, so it will be easy to backpack with. Cost: $70.00 with 20% off, so I only paid $56.00!”

“Wind Walker did you get the footprint with it???? I just bought a SD Light Year CD and the foot print is so cool. You can take it and the rainfly and and set it up without putting the tent in it.

Sounds confusing huh!!!!! But this way when it's raining you can set up the footprint and rainfly and then put the tent up under the rainfly without getting the inside of the tent wet.

This might not be new, I don't know, I've had my SD Metor Light CD so long that it didn't come with a rainfly and foot print like this, but if i can order a foot print that will let me do this with my Metor Light, I will.”

“My Mom got me a SD Omega for Christmas 3 years ago and I still dig it. At just over 7lbs with everything, it's kind of heavy, but the 3-4 season capability is a definite plus.

I once set it up using just the rainfly and the poles, like the fastpack setup, except without the footprint. It'd work for one person if ya had a groundcloth to put down.

Anywho... Don't bother with a footprint (imho) unless you'll use it as one of SD'd Fastpack arrangements.”

I got a deal it was the last one, it was hanging from the ceiling. Got it for $105.00. I'm sure it's probably a 2000 model, they were clearing them out for the 2001's that were coming. The foot print was around $20.00.

The footprint has the same connections as the tent so it connects directly to the rainfly. The tent has those velcro straps on the outside so you just through the tent inside it and put it up under the fly, velcroing the tent to the poles. I thought that was pretty cool. I've always had trouble putting my tent up without getting the inside wet when raining.”
