Is the Trout in the Sierras... Cascades? I WILL make it to the left coast this summer (I have yet to get past the Rockies - not that there's anything wrong with that!). I'm shopping for locales that'll allow my dog.

Fishing and cooking fires are a plus...

The Golden Trout Wilderness is in CA
just south of the Sequoia/Kings Canyon National parks or if your on the East side of the Sierras it's just south of the John Muir Wilderness.

In the Golden Trout Wilderness you can bring your dog and your gun if you so desire and fires are allowed below 10,000 feet.

Just up the trail from where we stayed are beautiful Maggie lakes Frog lakes and Twin lakes btu it was Nathans first trip and I didn't want to push him to hard.

It's clear on the other side of the Sierras and further south. But it's only 45 minutes from my house to the trailhead!
(Probably why I have been up and down that trail so many times)”

“Cute kids,great trip, pretty country. I don't have my own any more but we always find taking the grandkids makes a better trip for us too--they renew our interest in the little things and help us see things in a fresh light again.”

Planning is coming along nicely! Still not sure about the other two members, but my son and I are planning on going whether they go or not.
The big question right now is... can I really get 8 days of food in a Garcia Bear Canister?”
