Breathable rain jacket for under $100 ?

“I am looking for a rain jacket for under $100 that is breathable as well as packable. Or, should I save my money and wait till I can buy more top of the line jacket?”

“What about the Marmot PreCip jacket? Isn't that going for $99? Check Campmor. They also have Red Ledge jackets for even less. Both claim to be waterproof and breathable.”

“There is no such thing as a breathable rain jacket. Gore Tex is a fraud. Just get a water proof fabric jacket with vent openings. They are less expensive and work just as well.”

“Costco has a parka and pants 45 dollars. Waterproof and Breathable. I can't recommend them, after one day snowshoeing in a snow storm the fabric wetted out. The set was still wet after two days in my truck. My Red ledge set keeps me dry enough and dries itself very quickly.”

“There is absolutely no reason under the sun why you should not be able to buy a TNF Gore-Tex Mtn Light for $100. Check Ebay and outdoor gear classifieds. A used jacket in good condition is as every bit great as a brand spankin new one, WITH it's warranty still in effect.”

“They are flimsy but then so is a lot of lightweight stuff. I'm on my third year in mine--the butt is wearing out in the pants but the jacket is still in good condition.”

“You want yer jacket breathable...loosen all drawstrings straps as far as they can go, open/loosen yer sleeve cuffs all the way, unzip yer armpits, just snap the front closed (don't zip). That'll get yer jacket a'breathing!”
