There are more options than soaking stuff with chemicals or frankensteining dna. To stick with potato beetles here is a proven repellent,GREEN BEANS. Yes good ole beans. Organic works, heres some info... In downtown seattle there is 1 acre organic garden that in one year yielded 2 tons of produce.The garden is a community run place called the P Patch.

We dont need to tinker with dna to feed people. Produce is picked before prime to get to market so it looks appealing,much nutritional value is lost due to early harvest. People demand bruise and dent free fruit.This encourages waste and more chemicals and DNA meddling. Years ago there was new and progressive technology too, DDT,Thalidamide(SP?),asbestos,lead based paint all stuff that was progress . Not all that is shiny and new is good,some is down right dangerous.”

They must starve to death rather then take a slight risk of the altered grain causing long term health effects.

I visited the West Bank in the early 80s and met some people involved in the Begin government and West Back settlement(these were people connected to my, then, in-laws).
