“Wild Child, in my opinion the stress that destroys the meat comes from the transport, being kept in crowded pens and not being on the same diet as they were up to that point. I don't think the meat is destroyed because they are worried about death or that it is done cruely. This is only my opinion and I certainly don't begrudge anyone having a different one.”

Ken, I didn't know about the regs changing. I haven't kept up with it since I was fortunate enough to get away from there. I don't see how, in the process, they could skip a procedure up to the point of them being bled though. I am not saying that it doesn't happen, I just think the articles may be a bit one sided.”

As for Peta, I know a guy that is into horses. He was at a horse show where members from Peta set fire to the barn with the horses in it. Then they went around saying how they liberated the horses. Somehow I don't see an animal burning to death better living it's life as a "slave" where it is sure to have dry warm quarters and proper food.”

I don't think that it is cruel or immoral to eat animals, but some of the methods used to mass produce cows, pigs, and chickens are a little unseemly. Overuse of antibiotics and hormones. Confinement to the point of immobility. Massive fishkills from fecal pollution. But I am too additced to meat to give it up.”

“I'm impressed that it takes about 7 times as much land to feed a person on beef as it does on a vegetarian diet. Rightly or wrongly, that impresses me more powerfully than the suffering of the cattle. Intellectually I do believe that since we can live healthy lives without killing mammals that there is a problem with killing them for food.

I dunno if Peta really set fire to a barn and killed the horses therein. It would certainly be hypocritical if people who claimed to believe in animal rights decided they could judge the value of the horses lives and burn them alive.

As far as China goes, I think we (the United States) should offer an official apology, and give the Chinese payment for the jetplane our spy plane swerved in to, and give a large amount of money to the widow of the poor pilot who crashed and died. We should also let the Chinese keep and study the spyplane, too. It's only fair, because we were the aggressor.

Israelis and Palestinians just need to come together and talk things out. I think both sides are good, but misunderstood by the other side. They need to sit down to dinner and get to know each other.”

“I read an interesting book several years ago about the poultry industry called "Diet for a New America" by John Robbins. It made me think twice about the sources from which I purchase meat.

A friend raises pigs (just a few) for his family's needs (4 teenage sons). He was taught that when killing the pig, to stroke it's head, speak loving words, and shoot it in the head from it's blindside. He believed that a loving environment affected the pig...whether it's fact or myth, I don't know. But I will say I've never tasted better meat.

As for how we treat human beings, I believe that being entrenched in an opinion to the point that you can't listen and be open-minded is at the heart of too many issues/disputes. I've begun to wonder if politics as practiced by most governments is becoming a modern social disease.

As long as we ignore the eternal in human beings and animals, and treat everything as a commodity, we will continue to wonder what's wrong.”

“I have been digging into the whole meat thing sense the whole foot and mouth disease brought the issue to the front part of my brain (Ya know, the quiet part that is dusty?). I have always taken the ?God made it, I?m eatin? it, that settles that!? stance but I have come to realize that sometimes people can throw the bath water out with the baby simply because someone on the other side of an issue agrees with the same thing but for different reasons. I found that just because some pinko, card carrying PETA puke believes in being non cruel to animals and not eating meat doesn?t mean that it doesn?t fit into my personal and religious beliefs. I think many times we Christians associate veganism with new age hippies and that isn?t true. Vegetarianism and kindness to animals is VERY much in line with Christian beliefs. While I find it offensive to be told that animals have the same value and rights as humans, it fits because we are to be good stewards of the earth.

The methods we use to supply the masses is NOT being a good steward. Genetics, hormones, and God only knows what else go into animals and veggies that are mass produced. I always thought chickens were a good safe food?not true. Chickens are very susceptible to a form of leukemia and are fed cyanide in small doses to fight this type of leukemia. We in turn eat the chicken and ingest this same poison. Add in the fact that it takes 20 pounds of vegetation to produce 1 pound of flesh, the component that makes meat taste so yummy is urea (this is what piss is partly composed of), the livestock industry produces more harmful pollution than all the industries on the globe. Basically we have failed to be good stewards of the planet and I?m trying to reduce the part I play in it.

While it is OK to eat meat I have chosen to not eat it for the above facts and for mainly health reasons. There are so many great sources for protein that meat is not even needed for survival and I have found great recipes that I don?t even miss the meat. It?s all about choice and eating or not eating meat doesn?t make someone better than another or more noble.”

You state that all Palestians want what is theirs. Well they had a state and lost it to war, one of their own choosing. They want equality, but yet their stated goal is nothing less than the destruction of Israel. They have had many chances to end this thing and won't. Whether you choose to eat meat or not, you should make your choice based on an informed mind. It is not true that meat has nutrients that other foods do not have. I have friends who have returned to a diet that includes meat for their health. So...there are points to be made for both sides. However...were people to really inform themselves, many would not continue to eat meat.”
