Outback oven “What's the secret for this? I have burned everything I tried. Does anyone have any pointers? I have the light version that uses your own pans and I thought this might be the problem. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.” 6:23:32 PM 4/10/01 RE: Outback oven “oh man ...I'm talking to myself. I guess that's OK as long as I don't start going Huh? OK has anyone tried that bakepacker thing. Is it better than the outback oven?” 8:44:14 PM 4/10/01 RE: Outback oven “I've used the bakepacker, and it has to be watched closly so things won't burn on the bottom. If you have a stove that will simmer, it's no problem, if you don't you have to stick close and work with it. After you get used to it, it's great!” 9:19:47 PM 4/10/01 RE: Outback oven “to much extra weight! LOL” 9:26:32 PM 4/10/01 RE: Outback oven “I have had my outback oven for many years and love it. Haven't burned anything yet, but see how you could. The secret is LOW heat. Are you using the diffuser? My stove is an Apex I which has ultimate flame control. Hope that helps.” 10:45:04 PM 4/10/01 RE: Outback oven “Ditto on the burned food. Ditto on the low heat, too. I use/bought a Dragonfly for that reason (simmering). But so far, I've burnt everything I've tried, too. I guess I need even lower flame.” 2:04:25 AM 4/11/01 RE: Outback oven “I have used it with the featherlight 442 at its lowest point. Maybe I just need to go get an ApexI. ( gleefuly rubbing hands together and thinking "more gear more gear" ) :)” 7:10:22 AM 4/11/01 RE: Outback oven “Even though its not recommended, I use mine with a Camping GAZ Turbo 270 stove (and I've never had a problem). The Outback Oven really needs low heat and to be watched at all times. I try to keep the temp at the lower end of the "Bake" temp, so I'm constantly fussing with the stove nob. But nothing beats pizza at the end of a day of hiking.” 11:52:18 AM 4/11/01 RE: Outback oven “OK here's an update. I tried again tonight to use this thing with my 442 Feather and burned the brownies so bad I had to pry them off the bottom of the pan with a putty knife. I was just about to pull a Cats and throw the whole thing out, when I thought of this folding sterno stove I have. So I once again tried. IT WORKED! Can you believe that? Those brownies were pretty good. This sterno stove cost 6.50 and doesn't work well in the cold winter. But its ok in the summer and weighs 9.2 oz. I was amazed, even if I just use it to car camp, I mean at least I can use it now. Oh well I thought someone might like to know this, maybe not, but you never know.” 12:43:01 AM 4/15/01 RE: Outback oven “That's the way to do it Mr.Willow...work out the kinks at home in the kitchen, rather than in camp where the circumstances aren't so forgiving.” 1:35:37 PM 4/15/01 RE: Outback oven “Good info! The Outback Oven is very energy efficient. Reminds me of our waterless cookware at home.” 3:17:56 PM 4/15/01 RE: Outback oven “Huh excuse me Mr Buddur.........it's Mrs. Willow. :)” 10:26:25 PM 4/15/01 RE: Outback oven “Phils right, it is "energy efficient" I lost count on the number of time I used it with one canister of fuel. Just never seemed to want to empty.” 11:04:47 AM 4/16/01
