Looking For Hiking Buddy in Ohio
I am looking to find a hiking group or a couple of people to go on weekend hikes in Southern Ohio.

RE: Looking For Hiking Buddy in Ohio
Where are you at, Jay? University of Cincinnati and University of Dayton both have active outdoors clubs. You might have to be a student to join officially, but you don't have to be an actual member to attend meetings and go on trips. I know more about UC's club. They meet on Wednesday nights and from the spring through the fall, someone is going on some kind of trip almost every weekend and looking for others to go along. A bunch of nice, friendly people.

check out buckeyetrail.org excellent club for meeting hiking partners, participating in scheduled outings and hikes; the opportunity to participate and learn about trail maintenance and relocations; and the fellowship of outdoor-minded people. This club is where I learned just about every thing I know about backpaking. The club's main purpose is to develop, maintain and promote the Buckeye Trail. Try it, you'll like it ! BTW this is my first log on.

hi everyone....i have been reading trail talk since last summer and i'm finally getting around to logging on....i really enjoyed reading about dirtbag darrel and nigal's adventures since we (my wife, four curtain climbers, and me) have hiked many of the same trails here in ohio....does anybody else hike with kids here in ohio (or more importantly, do you want to talk about it)??

Mr.Gonzo...is your name in reference to Ted Nugent, the muppet dude, or a state of mind?

RE: Looking For Hiking Buddy in Ohio
it is the gonzo state of mind....fear and loathing on the hiking trail....grabbing the bull by the horns and going for it....kind of thing....

Thanks for all the advice, I hiked Zaleski this weekend and hooked up with two other hikers. It was a blast, and a surprising challange to boot.

RE: Looking For Hiking Buddy in Ohio
Gonzo, I take teens out on weekend backpack trips now and then. Some of them are from my church and some are from where I work. I work at a foster care network and volunteer some time with the kids. These kids from work are a tough group to get through a weekend without losing one or worse yet losing your sanity. It's still worth it to introduce a kid to backpacking.
