Just wondering if you carry an internal or external frame pack or no frame at all.

Guess I should be your first victim ... because I love my 20+
year old Wilderness Experience external frame pack.
I tried a couple of different internal frame packs in the early 80's ( Lowe Alpine ) I didn't like them. I'm sure they have made some improvements since then.

Internal now baby.

I prefer my martini shaken not stirred and with a twist rather than an olive.

I won't comment on the other question.

The current use for my old external is attic ballast.

Count me and my hubby in the outie group. Tried an internal but it really bothered my back - didn't like it that close. We do just fine, thank you, with our externals!

Mine are way too big and long to float. I have to stand up sometimes to let it come out cause the bowl is not big enough :{}

Pretty gross, lipstick hiker. Got a really bad mental image from that last posting. But I guess this thread had it coming. You shouldn't ask questions you don't want answered!

1. Internal.
2. Sinks.
3. Stirred.

Sipsey, I'm glad I was able to let you see a picture through my words.

Dang, it's so big I got to rassle with it, like it was some kinda snake. So as not to clog up my friend's bowl when I come over, I rassle it and through it out the window.

Internal(Bora 80).
What are you doing dumping it in the water in the first place? Don't you know that's ecologically unsound??
I prefer mine shaken, with chocolate and a cherry.

I have both but prefer the external. I enjoy the easier access to my gear and clothes because of the separate compartments. But the internal is good, too.

I like the extra protection from rain that my Innies give my sleeping bag, but I like the stability and functionality of the Outie once I unload my sleeping gear. My Innies are newer so I use them more often.

RE: Do you have an innie or an outie?
External. On the llama trips I was about the only one with an external.

I went shopping for an internal once. They all weighed just as much, if not more, than my Camptrails McKinley. I'm totally spoiled by the accessiblility. It handles my bear cannister very nicely. I put my platypus in the top compartment and it works fine.

My first pack was an external but once I started using an Internal, I loved the feel. With an External, I feel like I'm strapped to a wall.

I think an internal is safer for rough trails or no trail. You can pack the load so it does not throw you off balance.

innie! I just got it a week ago, and am absolutely itching to get out there and use it. Alas, I'll have to wait until June to really hit the trail with it, but we're going to do a training/practice weekend in May. Yeah!

RE: Do you have an innie or an outie?
I have a small internal for 25 lbs or less, but I really prefer my external Kelty Trekker. I've tried on a lot of internals and have yet to find anything as comfortable as the Trekker, especially when it's hot out. I trimmed it down to under 5 lbs, and have still carried 55+ lbs comfortably on a winter trip. The down side is when empty, it still won't fit in my one man tent.

When droppin the kids off at the pool they mostly sink but on occasion if they decide to run then they will float.

RE: Do you have an innie or an outie?
After several years with and expedition sized external (and also several years with an average capacity external), I switched over to an internal.
Because I'm not tall, and internal frame packs have a lower center of gravity (which helps with shortness), I found that internal frame packs work better for me.
They handle better on uneven terrain, and XC.
The last pack I bought (and just sold to 10 Bears), before I became a llama packer, was/is a Dana Design Astralplane Overkill.
6,000 CI, and a dream machine.
I would never have sold it except for the fact that 10 Bears was looking for a pack like this, and after I carried it one final time last June hoisting 65+ pounds, I decided that llamas were where it was at.
Internal frames are the hot set up, unless you get yourself some llamas.
Other than that...
Sinks....
Unless I drop 'em on the ground.
I don't drink Martoonies.
Beer, for sure.
Burn.

RE: Do you have an innie or an outie?
Innie, it makes off-trail adventures much less awkward. Arc' Teryx packs fit me like a glove. Bora 80 for short jaunts, Bora 95 for longer trips.

Depends on how much beer I've had...lol

Perfect (rinse the glass with Johnnie Walker Red) with an onion, shaken.

RE: Do you have an innie or an outie?
Martini rhymes with Weenie!!!

I'm stuck on the "INNIES".....especially when the weather is warm they stick like all hell to my back.
Internal works for me.
I still have some old "Boy Scout Type" Camp Trails frame packs.....anybody want one?
I guess I could build a "ladder" out of them.
They are good for hauling sacks of concrete or cases of beer.

I like the Dana Terraplane for maximum sh!t haulage.
I bought a MacPac Ravine(4400 cu) and used it twice...good pack....rugged and simple.....I ain't as rugged as I used to be and I'm seem to be getting simpler.
Internals are better for overhead clearance.

I suppose mel could have been mistaken for a tall person with an external.
