Today id (technically) the last day to file!
I remember the day when I did my taxes as soon as I got my W-2s and all other associated tax forms. For some reason, I've waited till the last minute for the last few years to do them...and each time, when I see the refund I'll get, wish I still expidited this process. Procrastination frustration...Ugh!!!

Yer Right I better get right out and spend my tax refund for before it sits around to long! I ran right out and filed when I got my W-2's no sence letting the government have my money any longer then the have too, they just might spend it!

RE: DON'T FORGET YER TAXES!
You do know that if you are consistently getting a refund from year to year...you are overpaying on your withholding and let uncle sam use YOUR $ all year long ---- a free loan, so to speak....so, go to it, change that W-4 with your employer and put that cash back in your own pocket. Think of the gear you could have been enjoying long ago!!!!! As a CPA (with a self-employed spouse & erratic income), I find it a challenge to wrest as much $ from uncle as I can and try to break even (or get as close as I can) every year!

RE: DON'T FORGET YER TAXES!
I don't see how the $30 a pay check my wife and I would have would make that much of a difference. I know we would just spend it the same as we do the rest of our check.

Now when I said,"no sence letting the government have my money any longer then the have too, they just might spend it!" it was in jest. I like getting a big refund, it's like money in a bank I can only withdraw from once a year. This year it's sending the wife and I to Hawaii for our anniversary!

utahiker is right
The best situation is to owe the IRS the largest possible amount without incurring a penalty. I just sent in $4,000 for my 2000 taxes and 1st Q 2001 estimated and I am happy as a clam because that money was in MY pocket until the last possible minute.

The amount I underwithhold is automatically deposited in my brokerage account so it works for me all year long.

One year I received a $2400 refund and I was mad. That was a $200 per month interest free loan to the IRS.

RE: DON'T FORGET YER TAXES!
Okay, so people in New England get an extension for Patriot's Day. And people in Seattle get an extension for earthquakes. And we all got an extension for Easter.

What happened to the meaning of the word deadline? Reminds me of the cheerleader-types in college who would cozy up to the professors to get an extension. (no pun, of course, intended)

And what does the IRS really do if you sent the things in tomorrow? Do they really go after people who are a day late?

Nigal...
That's not taxed.

It's out of work 99% of the time, and the other one percent it's in the hole. It's got two dependents and they're both nuts.

In my case it would a luxury tax anyway.

RE: DON'T FORGET YER TAXES!
My family did their own taxes on the internet this year, and it was very simple. I wanted to try that this year, but I had a merger happen on a stock and received other untaxed monies so I didn't, and it turns out it's best I didn't, but next year, I plan to do it myself.

I figure that kleetn and Tommy T should pay my taxes. They're swell socialist minded kinds of guys with big bloody hearts and their political heros are doing everything they can to make excuses for not reducing anybody's taxes. Since I'm not one of those evil rich folk, I absolutely deserve someone elses redistributed wealth. I figure it might as well be kleetn and Tommy T. What swell guys.

Yep Lipstick, In my case it's pretty easy. I use the form that says: "What did you make? Send it in."

I download the PDF forms, filed them out, printed them and mailed them off. Was way to easy. Of course I don't own anthing, I don't claim andthing, I don't make anything, so it was way easy!

RE: DON'T FORGET YER TAXES!
Since I owed so much, I waited until today to mail in my "penalty". $222,674 was how much I paid for CY2000 in Federal Taxes. Am I rich? Not the last time I checked. If you saw my house and car and saw how modestly I lived you'd agree. Guess I'm paying for quite a few welfare babies this year. Oh, my CPA waived his $210 fee. And Turbo Tax does rule!

RE: DON'T FORGET YER TAXES!
I filed my 1999 taxes last December. I did not get an extension, because I was due a refund. I got my refund in February and used it to pay for the balance of my 2000 taxes.

You only need an extension if you owe money.

Busy, busy, busy, Amy. I really haven't even browsed here for a while. I'll try to check in periodically but, for a while there, it seemed as if there were a lot of personal threads that didn't have much to do with backpacking. Guess I just got a little bored. Lord how I miss kleetn's sweet smile.
