In memory of Joey Ramone ( 1951-2001)
Gabba Gabba Hey!

Who would have thought that someone who espoused such a healthy lifestyle would die so young (I Wanna be Sedated, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue)?

I was truly saddened to hear that Joey had passed away. Despite limited musical talent, his music helped to wake up rock & roll and put some energy back into the medium.

My parakeet hadn't found his voice until I blasted 'Shena is a Punk Rocker'. The little guy started bobbing his head up and down and started singing his beak off. It was hilarious!

We went to see the Ramones at CBGB's (in NYC) back in the 80's. I don't know if it was my black leather jacket or what but they insisted on frisking me on the way in. My friend passed out in the middle of the warm-up act after smoking a huge Humbolt spliff and I had to carry him outside for air so I lost my spot at the stage but it was a kick a$$ show all the same.

We could use another revolution in music similar to what the Ramones started cuz lately it all sounds the same to me.

LET US FIND COMFORT IN THE WORDS OF THE KING OF PUNK HIMSELF:

Life's a gas, Life's a gas, Life's a gas, a gas, oh yeah
Life's a gas, Life's a gas, Life's a gas, a gas, oh yeah

So don't be sad 'cause I'll be there
Don't be sad at all

Joey Ramone.

Brings to mind a great song by Sleater/Kinney:

it's fine
when it's all mine
it's on my wall
it's in my head
memorize it till i'm dead
it's yours
now i'm so bored

i wanna be your joey ramone
pictures of me on your bedroom door
invite you back after the show
i'm the queen of rock and roll

i just don't care
are you that scared?
i swear they're looking right at me
push to the front so i can see
it's what i thought
it's rock'n'roll

i wanna be your joey ramone
wrestle on the bedroom floor
always leave me wanting more
throw away those old records

we go downtown
put on our best frowns
give me a chance
i know i can dance

it's fine
cuz it's all mine

I got the bad news this morning while making coffee.

Good-bye Joey ~@%^(

I saw the Ramones at a bar in Boston in Spring '76 !i!
Between songs Joey would holler...well, more like mumble,"no applause please, just throw drugs!"
The name of the bar escapes me.
My brother and I were just talking about that a little while back.

My boys have been down-loading a bunch of songs from Napster and I suggested The Ramones!

My 10 year old son's first "burned" CD is about half Jimi Hendrix and half Ramones!

My favorite is "The KKK Took My Baby Away".

Tom Terrific - MXPX does a great cover of that one.

The Ramones were such an influential band. I heard Bono talking about The Ramones' influence on U2. Who'd a guessed that?!

There's no stoppin' the cretins from hoppin'
You gotta keep it beatin'
For all the hoppin' cretins
Cretin! cretin!
I'm gonna go for a whirl with my cretin girl
My feet won't stop
Doin' the cretin hop
Cretin! cretin!
1-2-3-4
Cretins wanna hop some more
4-5-6-7
All good cretins go to heaven

That's funny, "cretin" is an archaic word for "christian".

RE: In memory of Joey Ramone ( 1951-2001)
The word cretin comes from "Christian"- as cretins in the Alps were considered as a sort of angels and people with direct contact to the Christian divinity (until the 1700's). The name came into French as an insult (crétin) already in the middle-ages, often as "crétin des alpes" - then passed on to the English language.

Do you remember lying in bed with the covers pulled up over your head?
Radio playin' so no-one can see.
We need change and we need it fast
Before rock's just part of the past
'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me.
