Bigfoot and Barleywine
Is anyone concerned about this? Does anyone care if I post something stupid? Does anyone make their own barleywine? Is Sierra Nevada trying to take over the world? What's the sanest way to drink 9.6%?!

RE: Bigfoot and Barleywine
I dunno about barleywine but my brother makes muscadine wine from wild grapes he picks locally. It's good but a little too sweet for my taste.

If Sierra Nevada ran the world, I'm sure it would be a happier place.

Welcome, Snail's Pace! If you start a separate thread, everyone will welcome you (and make fun of you... and, alternately, be nice when someone makes them shape up!) :-) It's not such a bad place, after all, here.........

RE: Bigfoot and Barleywine
Steve H - What's muscadine? Is that a type of grape?

Snails Pace - I couldn't agree more.

Have you tried this Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale? Wicked potent brew!

RE: Bigfoot and Barleywine
Muscadine is a kind of grape. They can be found wild in the Southeastern US. They're the only grape that grows well here in the f-state. I've got four plants of cultivated varieties of muscadines that I'm going to grow on an arbor. The guy who sold them to me had some samples of the fruit, and they were big, round, fat, sweet, with a thick skin. The wild ones are not as large.

Barly wine...HOLY CHIT =80

I brewed a Belgian Ale with 8.7% alcohol and I couldn't drink it. I had to add sooooo much fermentable sugars that no amount of hops could dull the sweetness of the taste. Actually, I was the only one who didn't like it.

I'd say do shots!

(drinkin' a Nutfield IPA as I write)

RE: Bigfoot and Barleywine
m-nutz, I am lucky enough to live shouting distance from where Sierra Nevada is brewed.

RE: Bigfoot and Barleywine
I too, live close to the Sierra Nevada brewery. Not shouting distance, but driving distance.

I always sample the local stuff, and while in Hawaii I asked a waitress what she recommended for a local microbrew, as I know there are several on the Islands. She said "Sierra Nevada Pale Ale".

I about gagged on my mahi-mahi.
