NOOO!!! My first gray hair
About a week ago I discovered my very first gray hair. At first I denied it, claiming that it must be blond, but I was just fooling myself..it's gray. I even got a 2nd opinion to confirm. How can this be?!?! I'm only 28..oh the horror...the horror!!!
(actually I wasn't so much upset as surprised) :)

Oh good, news! I figure that I deserve a weekend, if not week-long, trek for every grey hair that shows up!

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
Ahhhhh, blame it on genetics. My friend Pete started getting gray hair when we was 22, and he's healthy and isn't under a lot of stress.

If gray hair doesn't run in your family, you can always make up a story about recessive genes and throw in some big words and people will believe you.

hah....spare me.....:)
did you ever read "jitterbug perfume" by tom robbins?
the first chapter is a hoot, about a king discovering a grey hair in his beard (in a tribe where kings are killed at the first sign of aging) and his eluding death and aging...hilarious story.

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
First gray hair at 17 here. My mother's side of the family grays early but keeps their hair. My father's side of the family stays dark longer, but goes bald. I always hoped that the gene pool would set me up full and dark. Well, you can guess what happened.

Well, Cockroach. Looking more "mature" you can pick up older women easier.

(Did I say that?)

Don't fret Cockroach, gray is distinguished! At least you don't have young adult children calling you Morticia (as in Morticia Adams). LOL! And people wonder why I call my son Butthead;-)

I won't make comment about MadRivers comment! LOL!

Phil, I guess you could always color gray hair. You've gotta have hair first before you can make it dark.

I don't spend any of my time thinking about a few gray hairs, even though I now have 317 of them (down from 329 early this morning, cause I pulled out 12).

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
My wife insists she loves my almost completely gray hair. She likens it to the pelt of a mature male grizzly or gorilla. Some consolation. For me, it's watching my mustache and beard turn whiter day by day that's tough. As a blond, my beard was always rather red. So more of a contrast to the change than with the blond on top.

It's all downhill from here, man. Just For Men a plenty. Rogaine ('cause you gotta keep what you already have. OOohh. Scare tactics!), a bad rug and finally, Mr. Clean. I figure when I finally really start loosing my hair, I'll just shave my head. Maybe not to the skin, but stubbly.

I imagine that the only hair on my body that will be around long enough to gray will be the hair on my back or shoulders. That is a truly awful mental picture and I am sorry if you feel queasy now.

As a side note, i dont believe that I will age too gracefully. I will probably stay fairly fit and trim due to my running etc... but since i aint all that purty to look at, time will not be doing me too many favors.

Gee Pamster, you would have to bring up ear hair, wouldn't you. It's such an esteem builder for a guy to look in the mirror and realize that he has several odd, white, long hairs sprouting off his ears. They're sooo attractive.

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
I see what appears to be a blond/gray for years now. I keep pulling it cause it's right in front. I think I'd rather have my hair go gray all at once in one day. I will definitely use color hair rinse when it starts to gray.

I met a man years ago that was totally silver haired before 40. His hair looked great. Unfortunately, he thought it looked so great that he did not want it cut so much, so he walks around with something like a pompador, and that's bad, real bad.

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
One day I decided to experiment with my hair length. To make a long story short (pun intended) I eventually shaved my head. My wife took great joy in pointing out that it was my birthday in a few days and I had to renew my license. So now my license makes me look like "Zog, the Albanian Wrestler." All the ladies at the bank giggle when I walk in to cash my check.

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
MadRiver, I got a buzz cut for simple maintenance when we went to China, sending my ponytail to my mom for Mother's Day. Kept it buzzed ever since (do it myself with electric clippers -- saves a bundle), which keeps the gray issue at a minimum (it sparkles a bit in the sun, and women like to run their hands over the little bristles -- If I'd known about that effect, I'd have buzzed it sooner).

RE: NOOO!!! My first gray hair
My first silver hair was seen and then plucked by a former GF when I was 19 and since then they have continue to multiply. At present I am a nice even mix of silver and black with no back hair to speak. Not balding but I do have a few of those strange long eyebrow hairs. They say all that stuff adds character. I guess.

The eyebrows are the worst (well, except for the one's that sprout in your lap.
You pull out the gray eyebrow hairs, and pretty soon, you have none.
An unbroken line from your eyelids to where ever your hairline happens to be at this time.

Just shave your head. It's a great look and you'll never see a gray hair again.

And if you start going gray... somewhere else... you can shave there too.

I sometimes get one pure white, absolutely straight "eyebrow" hair growing between my eyebrows, like a pointy white dagger. I pluck it out but it comes back a few months later. Think it's the Mark of the Beast.

An Indian man claims he's a challenger to the record for the longest ear hair.

A man from Madhya Pradesh currently holds the world record with hair stretching a little over 4".

But a farmer from Orissa state is now claiming he has hair growing 5.1" from his ears.

Navyug newspaper reports Narayan Prasad Pal, who's 65, is bidding for a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Earlier this year Guinness officially confirmed the record set by B.D. Tyagi from Madhya Pradesh.

Mr Pal, from Podaiha, says he's been cultivating his ear hair for 15 years.

He told the paper: "I can safely say that I have the longest ear hair in the world. I am proud of my hair. Other than that there is not much I have achieved in life. I want to retain it until I die. I am hoping that it will grow longer so the record stays with me for a very long time."
