Little Kern Lake 8:03:45 PM 4/21/01 RE: Little Kern Lake “Hey, Great shots! Just wondering, Was the snake alive in that pic. or was it already dead? I don't mind playing with the safe ones but I don't touch 'em if they're venomous.” 12:17:41 AM 4/22/01 RE: Little Kern Lake “No it was dead. Strangely enough Jerry loves snakes and had a large collection of reptiles at the time this photo was taken. I was surprised he chased this one down to kill it. I saw an even larger one that same day...but it was going it's own way and wanted nothing to do with me and the feeling was mutual! With rattlesnakes... if you don't accidentally step right in the middle of one, they are not aggressive. If given a chance they will get lost in a hurry. At least that has been my experience.” 1:32:02 AM 4/22/01 RE: Little Kern Lake “Most snakes are that way. They don't want any trouble. Can ya blame em. We're bigger than they are.” 1:41:07 AM 4/22/01 RE: Little Kern Lake “Regarding agressiveness, a possible exception is the Mojave Green Rattlesnake. I understand they are somewhat agressive. Unfortunately, they are also much deadlier than other rattlesnakes because their venom attacks two of the bodies systems, rather than one. Nasty buggers.” 4:13:24 AM 4/22/01 RE: Little Kern Lake “Awesome pics, ww..thanks for sharing. Just where is Kern Lake in case I ever get in the area? Makes me want to pack my bag and GO!!!!!” 10:24:05 AM 4/22/01 RE: Little Kern Lake “Phil, I have heard that about the Mojave green as well but have never encountered one. UTAHIKER The Kern Canyon/River is in California. It's east of the Great Western Divide. It runs right between the Kaweahs and Mount Whitney but starts quite a bit farther north. Little Kern Lake is about 15 miles inside the Golden Trout Wilderness. It's a great early/late trip the elevation is only about 6,000 feet and I have been in there as early as Easter and as late as mid October. I plan on making it my first trip this year... I would have already went but the road is still closed.” 12:00:03 PM 4/22/01
