Post your weekend trip report here
Hello all,
Just a quick trail report, Jeannette and I went to Acadia for the weekend, got back last night.

We left Friday night and got to Blackwoods campground about 7:30, set up camp and ate. We earlier checked out the road to the top of Cadillac mountain, it was closed. So we headed over to the amphitheater to do a little stargazing. It was a perfectly clear night. While we were laying on the benches, checking out the constellations, we nearly fell asleep. We made it back to camp for the night, and enjoyed a campfire and somores.

In the morning, we had breakfast, then set out to do a little hiking. The Precipice trail was already closed, due to nesting Perigrine Falcons. A man had a telescope set up and let us look at them!! Since that trail was closed, we headed over to the Beehive and climbed up that cliff. Jeannette was a bit nervous as it was so steep, and I had to help Suzy over some ladder rungs also. Great views from all around. Then we headed to the Bowl, which is a big ole pond with beavers taking up residence. Yes, Suzy went swimming. We got some closeups of a Beaver hut while bushwacking.

Then we headed over to the top of Champlain Mountain, which is where the top of the Precipice trail is. We found a great overlook, had lunch and took a nap. Jeannette woke up and said, " Look at the falcon!" It was flying right below us!!! Didn't get my camera in time. We went back to sleep, sunning ourselves. She woke again, and this time there were two falcons right in front of us. I snapped two pictures, we'll see if they come out. If they do, I'll send some photos of them.

Then we headed down the hill to the truck, checked out some of the other sites on the island, for future visits, including my favorite garden, Asticou Gardens. Only a few flowers blooming now, but still very pretty. We headed back to camp, it felt like rain as we ate, so I tightened up the rain fly. We were beat, and slept long and well. Were we ever refreshed in the morning. It was still dripping from the trees, and we decided to go to a restaraunt for breakfast. I heard that Jordan's Blueberry pancakes was very good, so we tried them. If you are ever in the area, try them out. Excellent breakfast!

To finish out a perfect trip, we walked the shore path and sat on a bench to listen to the waves, visited some of the shops and came home to dry out the tent and wash the smokey clothes. We decided that we need to go to Acadia again.

Happy Trails

I helped a guy tie a braided hemp boat bumper for his Whitehall gig 25' row/sailboat. As payment, he took me on a day sail. What a blast! Unfortunately, now a sailboat is a must-obtain piece of outdoor gear for me. $$$$$$

Drove up to Pisgah Nat'l. Forest near Brevard, NC and hiked to the top of Looking Glass Rock. It's a 6.2 mile round trip with at least a one thousand foot elevation gain. I'm trying to break in my new boots. They did fine but my lungs need a lot of work!

Friday night I went to Solomons Island, Maryland, for the grand opening of the Tiki Bar.

Saturday, I went kayaking, and drinking.

Sunday, more drinking, and kayaking, got off the boats at an island that was infested with baby ticks, spend most of last night picking them off and talking about "Tick Island"!

Decided to hike up Mt. Si (finally!) on Saturday. Got to the trailhead, elevation 750' at 6:30 AM and saw only about 5 other cars in the 200+ car parking lot. We hit snow at about 3500' and climbed to the top of the Haystack (4167' )by about 9:00 and had the place to ourselves. We took some pictures, ate and headed down. This hike is a real zoo on weekends. I started counting people on the way up as we descended and lost track at 230. It's a very popular hike, obviously, due to it's accessability from Seattle. Most were not going all the way to the top, but that's where the best views were. I got back home by noon.

Here's the pics.

Burned some tires.

Hiked the mean streets of Ann Arbor. Saw lots of "wildlife".

Came home Saturday and found out that two of my students were killed in a car wreck. Both were fine athletes and impressive in the classroom. They were wearing seat belts, were returning at a reasonable hour...

Then a drunk driver crossed the center line and killed them.

What a waste.

Went to a scooter rally. Rode about 60 miles with about 50 other classic scooters to a field in the gold country, tried to kill 6 kegs of brew, built a big bonfire, ate hamburgers all night long, played "beer bungee" and passed out in a field. Oh yeah, I was getting paid to be there. Hee hee.

Went car camping with wife, 14 mth old son, another couple and their little girl. Went to private farm about 45 miles S of Tuscaloosa,AL. Had a mule(mechanized) to ride on farm roads. The little ones loved that. Everything went great until Sat. late morning when my son took a dive with sippy cup in mouth. Landed face first with cup in mouth and cut the mess out of upper lip. Race to emergency room. No stitches since cut was inside mouth instead of outside. Everything worked out, but taking first child on first trip to ER was more traumatic for mom and dad than lad. My son Reece is doing fine and is none the worse for wear. Planning next trip.

You know, I've never been to the Parthenon. Strange, since I lived there for 4.5 years. I'm a big Asian food fan, though. Great Lake Chinese restaurant on Carpenter is really good. Look in the aquarium and pick out the carp you want to eat.

Took a drive Saturday afternoon to the Desert Wildlife refuge in the Sheep Mountains. The snow level was at about 6k and the Joshua and Yucca trees were in full bloom. It was a great opportunity for me to practice shooting with slide film and my fiance to practice driving a standard transmission. We even spotted a few cottontail rabbits and black eared jackrabbits along the way.

Walkindude - no sweat. I didn't make myself clear - no one here knows me yet anyhow. I don't have a steady job. When I really want money to do something outdoors, I labor a few hours for people I know who have the means to pay me. Life is good when you're a free spirit!

Did anyone stay up late enough Saturday night to see Rahman knock out the Lewis? The Rock wiped Lennox's smile clean off his face. We got home from a Beatles tribute band at the H.S. auditorium (that's how starved we are for culture in the Northwoods - though it was fun)just as round one started on HBO.

I took my newbie nephew on a 14 mile north loop in the conecuh national forest over the weekend. We had an excellent time,as the trees were many and beautiful with spring. Also saw a gator and darn near froze that night as I was in my hammock with no insullation beneath me. It got close to 50 degrees. Also the largest and loudest bullfrog called out for love all night.
