Mushroom Hunting

“Took a long hike yesterday in the quest for the infamous Morel mushrooms. Only found a few very small "falsies"...which means the real ones are soon to appear (up here in N OH, that is).

While hiking in S OH this weekend, we came across a few groups looking for Morels. The few ones I found along the trail were pretty small and weren't worth picking.

How about some mushroom hunting tips? How do ya sneak up on them? What caliber bullet do ya use? Every time I manage to shoot one, its not exactly in eating condition even before I haul the corpse back home.”

“I was reading the other day that it is recommended for you shrum hunters to carry your pickings in a mesh bag. The reasoning behind this is that as you are trampling thru the woods you are also letting the spores from your pickings fall back to the ground to insure future growth.”

“I was out walking with a friend of mine years ago at college, a botanist and fungi expert when we came to a large clearing and he almost fell over. The area was covered, and I mean covered, with musrooms of the magic variety :o)”
