What, no Peru debate?!?
I come back to this forum, expecting the damn-fool religious sheep to be up in arms about the Great Satan known as Peru! Where the hell is your sense of rightousness? Aren't you madder than hell that Satan nabbed the souls of a religious sicko and her poor innocent baby? Shouldn't you be lobbying your congressional representatives to bomb Peru?

Personally, I think this is proof that god hates christians, especially fundamentalist christian missionary scum. It's about time the big guy sent a warning to all the brainwashed christians - a warning that they're serving the DEVIL! Remember, the greatest trick the devil ever played on humanity was making it seem like christianity is the one true religion!

Mutt, I just wanna scratch you behind your ears!

Those missionary scum are only helping themselves, or wo they think.
They are racking up points with the Big Geeze by "converting" more souls.
They are filling innocent backward people with non-ideas and setting them up for further exploitation by commercial/special interests.

I think its despicable that they are in the drug trade. What is this a "souls for drugs" kinda thing?

lol@limpy

Tom, you're absolutely correct. The church is big business, and it's looking to increase its revenue. The control the religious elite have over the typical churchgoing sheep-person is incredible.

Remember, in a historical context, spreading the christian faith to save the souls of heathens around the world was the social justification used by the major colonial powers in their pursuit of the brutal exploitation of native peoples and their natural resources. Watch out, Peruvians! Here comes the heavy hand of Jezus.

Lay your hands on the computer brothers and sisters, and receive!!!
Ow, there ya go!!!
Now Satan's got your soul on his hard-drive!!!

The story of Vietnam is typical.
For over 100 years the French coveted that country and its potential for agricultural output, etc.
The Jesuit Missionaries went there to "save souls" for Jesus.
They were the Shock Troops who prepared the way for the French take-over in 1862.
It was the occasional killing of said Jesuits by irate natives that was one of the pretenses for the "final solution" there.

The same sort of crap was tried in China.
Was it to save souls or move in on the fabulous wealth of human and natural resources.

I happened to see an interview of the parents of the woman who got killed on a morning news program. While they were handling the death of their daughter very well, they also said they had no anger at Peru's air force. That surprised me. Religion is a fine thing if it helps you deal with loss, but it might help improve the safety of civilian flights if the parents were upset and angry and determined to force Peru to change its policy of engagement. Seems like they're missing an opportunity to make something positive come out of their daughter's death.

Um, joy, I don't believe in satan. My vision of higher powers isn't limited to a bearded caucasian grandfatherly old man and a horned, red-skinned little troll with a pitchfork. I gave up children's stories when I was a kid. What's your excuse for still believing in that anthropomorphic crap?

Yeah, god and jezus are two honkies kicking it live on a cloud in the sky. Now that's a deep understanding of life! gah

Mutt, we'd love to debate you, theologically or otherwise, but you can't use esoteric devices one minute, then disavow them when the next person uses them.

And can anyone tell me why there's so much religion bashing, but when a government is cruel and oppressive for purely polital reasons, no one mentions it? Tom Terrific brought up China. Ok, he condems the Christians for trying to do their thing there, but doesn't mention that communist Mao killed more people than Hitler ever did but somehow OHHHHHHHH Christians are BAD?

I guess you can blame all the evil in the world on religion, and justify every other evil out there. Must be nice.

All this reference to "Da Devil" is purely sarcasm, mommy.
And to paraphrase the young folks, "its all bad!".

Missionaries to China or any other backward country have interfered with the natives not helped them materially.
And they have set them up for exploitation.

Sure, sure, Mao and his buddies killed FAR more people than Hitler.
75 years ago China was the world's doorknob, everybody got a turn.
For better AND for worse, China is run by Chinese now.

Religion only has as much power over me as I choose to give it and I can take that power away at any time I desire. It is a choice people make. So are those posting all the anti religion stuff against a mans right to choose or do they just think they should make the choice for me because I am to stupid to make it myself?

This and the Bait thread are interesting mirrors of each other.

No sense of inquiry, no real conversation. A wrestling match between where smugness, name calling and self righteousness are the two major moves. Oh yes, and fractured history tales.

I don't care or want to make the choice for anyone concerning religion.
I do however feel free to state my feelings on the tyranny of religion.

As a citizen of the US I have the freedom FROM religion as well as the freedom OF religion.
I would guess that applies in lovely Canada as well.

My favorite part is when liberals pound on the freedom of speech rhetoric, saying they are free to decry religion as much as they want, but then condem Christians for preaching their faith, or trying to convert others.
I guess to some people, freedom of speech only applies to their kind.

Oh, or how about belittling religion, because "no one's going to tell me how to think" and in the same sentance "so you should think the way I do and renounce religion." Hypocrocy is funny.

RE: What, no Peru debate?!?
Oh this is a hoot. A fundamentalist calling me a pebble in a tin can. Joy, have you ever really listened to christian responses to legitimate criticisms? Same thing over and over: Well that's the bad christians...that's the bad churches...that was in the past...they're not following the true words of jebus. UGH. What christians need to understand is that there are legitimate criticisms of their religion that shouldn't be apologized away by some meaningless rhetoric or bible verse. Christians have an amazing facility for for congealing together for a political cause (like banning books in school libraries, gay bashing, or forcing prayer on public schools), and then atomizing the instant someone demands responsibility from them when christianity has hurt people (like "well that wasn't MY idea...that's the bad christians...the f@g was a sinner and had it coming anyway"). So the church has total freedom to wreak havoc, and total freedom from responsibility, because the SHEEP won't open their GODDAM eyes to what a frickin' scam their religion is.

christians need to wake up from their collective nightmare and look really hard at all the evil spawned by their "holy" book and decide whether or not they're willing to blindly support that evil or work to eradicate it and make their religion socially responsible.

Now, as far as me sounding like a pebble in a tin can, STUFF IT UP YOUR BUTTHOLE. I've had to suffer through the same christian inanities all my life. So I'm going to shove all my boring, repetitive cr@p down your throat and YOU'RE GONNA LIKE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!

tommy provides case-in-point for my previous post: Whenever anyone criticizes poor little tommy's religion, they're obviously out to censor him and convert him. So he's closing his eyes against the big bad liberals and not listening to any point of view other than his church.

RE: What, no Peru debate?!?
Christianity is very diverse, you just can't paint it with a hugely broad brush. Christian churches have been at the forefront of anti-slavery movements in the US, while others were at the forefront in supporting slavery. There are pro-and anti- abortion churches. There are churches and ministers that do gay and lesbian committment ceremonies and make strong "open and affirming" policies and declarations and there are churches and ministers that proudly anounce that "God hates Fags."

One thing the over the top Christian Bashers and folks like Falwell have in common is the belief that being Christian of necessity alligns you with a huge socio-political and economic agenda.

If'n you are gonna disagree, understand what it is you disagree with.
