.65 then, so $3.40 x .65 = $2.21/gallon US

Gas in the US is still cheap!! Prices have stayed pretty flat on a real $ basis for the past 30 years.

Of course, what the company pays in car mileage, it might just pay for bike maintenance.

$1.40ish in ATL.
I heard on the radiddy-o that Phoenix unseated ATL as US's cheapest gas - by, like... a penny.

That'll prolly change (if it hasn't already).

I save $.03 per gallon by swiping my Kroger Plus card. Kroger offers the gas for the same price as the cheapos, ie, QT, Hess, RaceTrac, etc, but reduces an additional three cents if you use the card.

There are two gassy Krogers in my area, so it's not out of the way to gas-up there.

BTW, I recently learned that Kroger Plus cards are accepted at semi-affiliated (ie, Lambs Market, Challis, ID) stores nationwide.

I'm in a group that get's a substantial discount per gallon. I pay $0.10 over the cost, including trucking. I pay about $0.25 / gallon under what is posted.
Of course my frien just happens to own most of the gas stations where I live!!!

It is time to start thinking conservation of our pocket books by planning smarter trips.

Just like backpacking gadgets. Every trip should have at least two purposes.

My motorcycle gets 75 miles per gallon so when it warms up, I'm using that to get around. Every little bit helps I guess.

this is true, but you also have the problem of there being about 100 miles just to get to the local grocery store. :) you save on gas but the wear and tear on the car and the usage of gas is more
been there, done that

Use Fish n Chips Oil
A few months ago, I heard a news item about this guy in England, who used old cooking oil to run his car. He went to Fish n Chips restaurants and got the grease/oil for free, and then filtered it clean. The authorities are trying to stop the practice, because they say the exhaust smells like fish, and stinks up the city...plus they're probably not getting any taxes.

The situation in Venezuela is a very good example of the problems caused by Bush's myopic focus on Iraq. Normally a POTUS would be all over the situation, seeing as how Ven. is one of the 3 biggest oil exporters in the Western hemisphere. Bush has done nothing about it, which is particularly alarming as a war in Iraq might result in oil shortages and higher prices.

Way to go, Bush.

Thanks Roseymonster....I didn't even know they made kits, to convert diesel cars to burn veggy oil.

I noticed prices went up another nickel per gallon this week. I won't complain too much because I saw a news program last week that said prices in California hit over $3 per gallon in some areas. They also said that oil companies employ a pricing system there called zone pricing. They charge higher rates to wholesalers in affluent areas. Sounds like ripping drivers off to me.

Californians pay more at the pump, due in large part, to reformulated gasoline so the sate can make air quality attainment.

They mentioned that in the program. Instead of MTBE additive, they use ethanol mixed with the fuel.

Yeah, the refineries are making a killing...
roseymonster

No, the refineries are NOT making a killing right now, actually their margins are lower than they've been in some time.

As the price per barrel goes up, margins go down.

I'll agree that oil comapnies are making more per produced barrel of crude right now, but that is only because of supply and demand.

Crude Oil is bought and sold just like Metals, Pork Bellies and Wheat.

Contrary to popular belief, the oil companies do NOT set the price of oil. They get paid whatever the market bears.

The people making the money right now are the gas station operators who are charging $3 and $4 per gallon of gasoline, and for the most part, they are independently owned and operated by people with no affiliation to the oil companies, other than paying to use the brand name of gas being sold.

I was speaking solely about the CA refineries, Chief. I saw a cost breakdown and they are doing quite well in this state due to the need to create ethanol ladden gas.
