California: Pt. Reyes Hike - Trail Report
I vacationed in CA these past 8 days. One of the hikes I did with my husband, Lookingglass, was with Obi Wan Canoli, Dunk, and his friend Paul. We hiked the Alamere Falls trail at Pt. Reyes, just north of San Francisco.

It was a beautiful warm sunny day, and the views up the coast were outstanding. The Alamere Falls hike is a rolling trail of hills and dunes with 3 lakes and Pacific Ocean views. We passed lupine, Queen Elizabeth's Lace, red paintbrush and poppies. I picked up a little critter along the way. Dunk says he was a nute. He was very soft and delicate.

The lakes were pretty, especially one that bordered the coast. My pictures will be posted on Phil's Photo page when Phil gets a chance to do so.

We stood on top of the falls, then hiked down a very steep hiker-made trail down to the beach. We sat on the beach between the falls and the Pacific Ocean and ate our lunches in complete peaceful solitude with beauty all around us. Dunk & I shared animal sighting stories, and then I realized that when I was at Pt. Reyes the day before, I had seen a white Fallow deer, which at the time I thought was a sheared sheep. This animal was too white, lean and tall to be a sheep.

It was time to head back. We started the hike at 9:00am and finished at 2:30pm. Dunk picked out this hike and did a great job of doing so. Obi said that it felt like we all knew each other well. I felt the same way. I do know Dunk 3 yrs now from tt. Dunk's friend Paul was a nice addition to the trip. We all enjoyed his company.

After the hike, we hung out for awhile at the trail head. LG & I enjoyed the hike and everyone's company, then we were off to the airport, back to Seattle. Dunk, Obi, and Paul went for a late lunch together. LG & I weren't sure we could do lunch and be on time for our flight, so we went straight to the airport, and saw we had extra time and stopped at a Sizzler for the salad bar.

It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

Here's the Pt. Reyes pictures that Lookingglass took. It was a great day for a hike and the company was good. I did however bring home a little Poison Oak.

The pics that Dunk is showing are not the first 4 you see. You have to look to the bottom right of the list and click on Pt. Reyes to see them all. The ones LG sent to Dunk still need captions. Phil will post ones with captions and maybe more pictures.

Steve Hiker, I have California pics, but I haven't posted them all and put captions on them. Thanks for asking. I will start a thread and link my California trip pics to it.

Dunk, I can't believe you were the one to get Poison Oak, since you were pointing it out to the rest of us. I'm sorry to hear that it got you, but I'm also glad it didn't get me, lol. That's the beauty of wearing long pants on the trail, lol. I'm glad you pointed the poison plant out to me & LG, because I really never knew what it looked like.

I thought about the animal I saw the day before, and it was a White Fallow Deer. I should have taken a picture, but at the time when I thought it was a sheep, I didn't think it was worthy of one, lol.

How bizarre, I thought I linked to the Pt. Reyes album, I hadn't even seen those four yet. ??????

I don't even know what those 4 pics are doing there. One is a plane pic on a train track in Seattle, the next is the Na Pali coast and a beach in Kawia, with a pic from our trip, hmmmm. This is a case for Lt. Columbo!

You guys did a great job on the pics... It was a super day for a hike... not too hot, not too cold... it was juuuuuuuuust RIGHT!

Dunk, them hot wings got me good. Did you & Paul survive the night?

I think a few more hikes to that area are the ticket...

LG & LH, I hope you weren't as sore as me! But I had a great hike, too. Sure glad I had that walking stick...

I wasn't sore. Even when I do a strenuous hike I don't get sore legs. It was a perfect day for hiking. I could have used a walking stick for the steep parts. I was lucky to be given a hand by LG & Paul on steep areas.

Dunk, could e-mail LG, and show him how to make a link that doesn't have to be copied? Thanks. Also, tell Paul I e-mailed him the pictures of the hike. I had his address from the e-mail you sent before we left.

Those pics are mind-blowing, esp. No. 7.

Also, the eucalyptus in No. 11 is incredible, and looks almost like the bayann (sp?) tree. That's the type of tree the Buddah sat under when he attained Enlightenment. Bet you could do the same there, on that coast.

steve hiker, if you think those pics are nice, wait until I get my 35mm pics back. I will be able to put them on the internet.

I have pics of my hiking in Big Sur, Pt. Lobos (I think) and Pt. Reyes along with seals & otters from kayaking.

Hi Cork, I brought my thread back up from obscurity for you to find it.

You can use Dunk's link, but then you have to look on the bottom left of the page for "Pt. Reyes".
