Anyone know anything about the Back Country Guide program or anything in general about Vermilion CC in Ely MN?

RE: Ely MN
It's cold up there in the winter...

I dont' know anything about that program, but here are a couple websites to local trails.
www.kek.org for the kekekabic Trail Club.
www.elyminnesota.com - Ely obviously
www.canoecountry.com - boundary waters
www.boundarywatersmagazine.com

That's about all I can do. I used to have a different link too, but I can't find it now.

RE: Ely MN
Yeah,

I was up there 2 years ago and portaged the traingle lakes area for a week. It is absoultely beautiful up there, and pretty remote. I belive that Black Fly season starts in August, so I'd go there sooner if I were you. There are some tough portages, so be sure to plan accordingly, especially if you are taking any novices along. The campsites were great, many of them on islands within the lakes and there is plenty of wildlife. We rented a cabin for the week and the owner hooked us up with our canoes. We had all other gear, so we didn't have to mess with the outfitters. If you need an outfitter, there are no shortage of them in Ely, but it can be costly.
There are a wide variety of lakes to portage in, Bear Lake is very popular, and crowded from what I hear, so we choose the Traingle Lake area. It was nice because we were able to canoe both lakes and rivers on that route. If you want any more information, I'd be happy to share our itinerary with you.... jayd14@prodigy.net.
