knobstone trail?? “has anyone hiked the knobstone trail in southern indiana? the trails database review says that it is "notoriously dry"....i'm wondering if there would be plenty of water there this early in the season? where are the best campsites? which segments of the trail are the most scenic?” 5:38:43 PM 4/30/01 RE: knobstone trail?? “I've hiked part of it and it is pretty dry and hilly. There are a few places where it follows a river, but I don't know if I would trust drinking the water, even filtered. I've never camped trailside there, but I do remember camping in an area that is near the trail.” 7:24:46 PM 4/30/01 RE: knobstone trail?? “Most people that I've talked to cache water at various road crossings or trailheads. Given the nature of the terrain down there, water tends to drain off pretty quickly. You can probably get water at both ends of the trail and at one other trailhead (Elk Creek?.” 7:00:44 AM 5/01/01 RE: knobstone trail?? “What about water sources for the Adventure trail? Anyone know anything about this one?” 7:31:59 AM 5/01/01 RE: knobstone trail?? “Knobstone trail definitely requires caching water. There isn't enough along the route to sustain you.” 8:30:45 AM 5/03/01 RE: knobstone trail?? “Willow, I don;t think that water is as much of a problem on the Adventure Trail as it is on the KT; however, you should probably plan ahead and make some stashes if you can. The guide-map says not to depend on local water sources during dryu periods. YOu do cross the Blue River at a couple of points and come near some streams at other points, but... YOu also are near the Ohio River for part of the trail, but the bluffs look pretty steep!” 1:43:04 PM 5/05/01
