AT THRU-HIKE “Leaving tomorrow for VA to bring supplies to a friend that is thru-hiking the AT. Which is pretty great considering she started as a teen in our GS BKing group and has now graduated college and decieded to do this. Question: If you were thru-hiking, what would you want someone to "visit" you with. BTW: if anyone comes across a northbounder named SKY - be extra nice to her.” 8:43:34 PM 4/30/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “beer, steaks, and my wife. if you can't get all of them, just get the beer.” 8:46:39 PM 4/30/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “Beer, fruit and soda is what we are bring down - and taking back her winter gear.” 8:54:10 PM 4/30/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “now someone is trolling m&m? m&M?” 8:58:26 PM 4/30/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “both have the same bios, whats up with that m&m, that's not a very creative alias as alias's go around hear. I'd also love a ride to and from someplace I could shower and resupply at reasonable prices. Maybe to the post office.” 9:46:05 AM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “Shower, a klondike bar, and a bar burger, fries and icy cold beer.” 9:48:28 AM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “What you miss most is "real food" - fruit, vegetables, salads, meat and ice cream. On the PCT last year, on the 4th of July we were treated to a hiker's ideal meal - barbequed hamburgers and chicken, corn on the cob, salad, fruit salad and ice cream. Trail magic extraordinaire! When we've brought food to AT hikers, we found that fruit and juice went very well, as did any cold drinks (beer and coke) and home baked goodies (brownies and cookies.) Anything but pasta and oatmeal. If you want to mail goodies to your friend while she's hiking - best choices are baked goods (cookies or sweet breads), fancy dried fruits and vegetables (if she didn't dehydrate before she went) and small amounts of candy or jelly bellies. Send stuff she can't find at the small grocery stores along the way. Anything you do will be much appreciated.” 11:05:05 AM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “A half gallon of ice cold whole milk and a bag of apples.” 12:37:48 PM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “Chocolate which isn't a melted mess, popsicle, and a hug.” 12:38:31 PM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “#1 beer #2 Pizza” 12:40:01 PM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “Le Subtil, Are you a horse? Of course!” 12:45:12 PM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “most of the AT hikers we have helped only want very little. a place to wash up, pop, food of any kind, and clean clothes.” 12:53:50 PM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “A giant navel orange,a steak and a submarine sandwich.” 8:24:02 PM 5/01/01 RE: AT THRU-HIKE “JUST GOT BACK It's so great!
