The Thread where everyone talks
So Anyway Im suposed to be writing a paper.... That will all come in good time Im sure. But for now Im prcrastinating by talking to all of you. Who knows maybe ill check in later after the paper is written and everyone will have posted amazing insightful stuff. Or maybe you could tell me what i learned in my counseling class so that I can write a paper on it. Or maybe you might want to give me info on fundraising and service projects so I can hand in my youth resource file, Or maybe you want to speak in swahilli so I can know my vocab for my final tomorow. what am I doing here? I have so much to do! Any way when im sick of everything, Ill check back and this thread will be really full. give me stories or whatever. Ok homework you must do hhomework.... When will it all be over?

I've been not doing homework either. Come to think of it, I've been not doing homework all year long. Right now I'm not doing a researchpaper on educational practices/philosophies and their affects on minority children after the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling, compairing Dewey to Adler, to resegregation movements.

Maryphil, actually it was a topic of my own choice. Educational philosophy is very interesting, and I would like to know more about theeffects of different teaching styles/methods on minority children so I can hopefully eventually implement the most effective method.

RE: The Thread where everyone talks
Oldie -
I do not think there is a "most effective method".

28 kids?
28 "most effective methods"!

Be prepared for mega frustration on a daily basis.
Do what you can, then go home.

Concentrate on disciplinary methods. Disclipline will require the lion's share of your time and energy. Start authoritatively, but be prepared to become authoritarian.

Be prepared for a collective luke-warm response from your students.

Hope for the best...
but expect the worst.
Teaching's a play,
and we're unrehearsed.

Most importantly - return for a second year...
it gets better.

BTW -
two weeks and two days!
WHOO-HOO!!

RE: The Thread where everyone talks
I think you misunderstand me. I'm talking curriculum and general school environment rather than classroom management and individual relations. Group work/cooperative learning/progressive doctrine vs. Core curriculum vs. immersion schools. I'll be examining the academic success of minority children under these different schools of thought. I really like Adler's Core Curriculum ideas, but unfortuantely that method leaves out many opportunities to examine cultural differences and values and teachings.

I completly agree withyou Pekka, I'm not about to treat a child as a minority. I'll do the best I can with each of the children and try to provide for them the best I can as individuals. I hope that clears things up a little.

I just finished my last class as an undergrad this afternoon. Now I only have papers to write.

Are you folks talking CEU's? Man, I can't even remember what school was like. It was all one sleepless blur. You have something to look forward to adventuregirl, your education is just beginning and the breaks get shorter. Only thing is, they eventually pay YOU instead.

Then you can buy more GEAR!

RE: The Thread where everyone talks
If anyoone really cares, swahilli is actually a pretty easy language to learn. It is not a tonal language or a clicking language. See Swahilli is an African trade language that is known by most Africans especially in East Africa. So it is great language to learn if you plan to ever live in Africa. I have heard of the clicking languages, I believe that is south America though. Anyway Swahilli is not spoke much here in the states but It is good for if you ever travel to Africa, because it is spoken in most countries there. Anyway I thought you might all like a lesson on African linguistics. Hey and by the way I dont think I failed the test. And i handed in all my papers.

Ok, just to ensure that I have a presence on the thread where everyone is supposed to talk, here's a post to ponder. Those among us who have experienced those creaking joints and aching muscles will appreciate this little bit of Truth:

Inside of every old person is a young person, wondering what the hell happened.
