Albuquerque hikes
What's near Albuquerque? I'm going to be out there in July visiting a friend, and I'll have an opportunity to take a 3-4 day backpacking trip.

So far I'm looking at the Gila Wilderness, what else should I check out?

There's a large NF just minutes north of town. It should be able to meet the needs of a four-niter.

I thing BP'er Mag did a weekend wilderness bit about it recently.

I've driven thru Albuq., and the mountains are plainly visible from town.

In July, I'd head for the Pecos Wilderness. Another great place I have been in July is the Bandelier Wilderness area, but water is scarce and it can get hot. The backcountry ruins there are way too cool.
