OMG hath my eyes deceived me??! Lizs did I just see that you were "sitting on a stump yesterday" and "(was behind a great group of BLUEBALLS!!)" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would it be rude of me to ask ya to elaborate?

As for chair mostly I'm a squatter, but I do like my piece of Tyvek, and at night I do like to lounge on The Boardwalk, er, I mean my Deluxe RidgeRest.

Whilst strolling in the backcountry one day I espied a fellow traveller. Strapped to his pack was a full sized chaise lounge! The aluminum tubing and nylon webbing type, accordion folded. He looked like something out of the Grapes of Wrath, but I bet he was comfortable when he arrived at the day's destination.

Register one vote for logs and rocks, they precede the others in order of creation.

Whilst hiking in the Galliuro Mountains recently, we found the chaise lounge left behind by the comfortable @ss who hauled it in. Hiking bud and I broke it into two pieces and carted it out. Strapping it on the back of our packs was not as much trouble as I expected.

Crazy Creek, works great on logs, rocks and stumps...like Phil ,it's my back that needs help, not my butt. I justify the weight by using it as part of my sleeping pad.

Speaking of chaise lounges, found one on top of Mt Santa, hated
seeing it at first....loved laying on it though.

Obi, my little sweet Canoli....
You would not be comfortable in a sling lite.

Anyone who carries a little more weight from their chest to their knees than they are happy with, will find getting out of a Sling-lite impossible to get out of, save falling over on your side, and pulling the chair out from between your thighs.
Skinny shorter people, or skinny tall people with exceptional balance and grace do well with Sling-lites.
Needless to say, I do not DO a Slinglite.
Draw your own conclusions.

....Visualize..

A Titanium M (deep V), with a three foot legs, and a tapered diaper (16 inches at the widest point, 10 inches at each end) suspended between the horns of the M.
You sit in this "chair" as you would don a "thong".
Each leg of yours on either side of the diaper.
And your ass is only three inches off the ground.

While my wife was recovering from a back injury, she used a device called the Nada Chair to support her back when sitting on benches, the ground, or a canoe seat. It has a back pad connected to knee loops and the tension supports the back. A neat device, pretty light, but won't work as a sleeping pad.

About slinglights--I've been carrying one since I was much younger and more agile. It is no big thing to get into it but I've had many the belly laugh watching others try. The boyfriend is 200 pounds and he does fine in his too. Their virtue is that they get you all the way off the ground. You can lay back in them and read all day. Really comfortable.

After coveting Naviguesser's Thermarest chair on the llama hike, I started looking around. I found one on clearance at Sport Chalet for half-price and got it. The chair I have is nice, but not near as comfortable. This will be about the same weight, but much less bulk.

What is nice about it is that you leave the pad in the device all the time. It protects it and it only takes a few seconds to convert it into a chair. I'll get to try it out in a few weeks.

I knew if I tried out one of those Therma Rest'R' chairs, that I'd have to get one. I did and I did. Actually, I found a great deal on the Infinity version.

I had been using a Therma Seat (12 x 18" pad), for long trips. Stumps and logs were okay, but I'd get home after a week and the only thing sore was my a$$.

Or... just a 2-foot square of closed-cell foam. It can also be used to compliment a 3/4 length Thermarest.

I'm still on the lookout for one of those Slinglights, Mary Phyl.

RE: Poll: Camp Chair or Tree Stump?
It depends.

When I one of my buddies first got one I thought it was too much weight and bulk when there were always plenty of good places to sit. Then I got jealous after a while watching him lounge by the fire and got one myself.

Now it depends on what terrain I'll be facing and how much weight I feel like lugging. I always bring one in the winter.

RE: Poll: Camp Chair or Tree Stump?
Seems like the stump is always a little too far from the fire, or in the smoke. I use an inflateable seat pad I got for turkey hunting, sort of like a nice "hotseat" light and cozy for those not thick of backside.

RE: Poll: Camp Chair or Tree Stump?
Went to Plimont made three copies of the thermarest chairs and they were always occupied by somebody at every long stop. Everytime I got up one of the scouts would ask to use my chair until I got back. Out of 8 people that went we had five chairs.

It goes with me everytime.

RE: Poll: Camp Chair or Tree Stump?
At Philmont (1993) I had a folding camp chair (2 lbs.). It worked OK, but I think the thermarest chairs are more comfortable and give your back a better "rest". We had 3 chairs among 11 people.

I've been seriously considering getting one of those backpacking stools. I like to have something dry to sit on, even if it doesn't have a back to lean on.

RE: Poll: Camp Chair or Tree Stump?
If it is a weekend camp affair I usually carry a dove stool. A friend of mine has a wiz bang stick seat. He won't tell me where he got it (we aren't close), but I may have found an attractive alternative. The flipstick

That device looks like something found in an old duffer's golf bag.

The framed metal stays on my backpack have a strong denier nylon panel attached which can be lowered horizontally(plus be supported) by the pack's side compression straps to form a lounge chair. I haven't had the courage to try it.

Gear Slut - Is that a designed in seat? If so, what brand of backpack is that?
