Share yer bed?
Now that I have your attention...

We're looking for an ultralight thermarest for Abby's backpacking bed. Full or 3/4 length. Anyone got one they want to sell? Anyone have any other suggestions on what might work? It's got to be a good insulater, pack down small and sorta light weight.

When I say "pack down small" I mean football size or smaller.

Try strong tea from tea bags, use an old hand towel to soak it up. Lay the tea towel on the sunburn. I've used this and the burn won't even blister. Unless you've waited too long. Teabags under the eyes are good for that reflection off the water sunburn.

RE: Share yer bed?
as a matter of fact, my problems have led to this name change.

like a lizard, i love the sun. it literally puts me into such a relaxed state that i almost pass out, but if i get too much, it will kill me. so, like the lizard, i must head for shade... and beer.

Hi guys! I have a 3/4 Z-Rest that you can have. With her slight weight I don't think you'll need the extra padding the T Rest will give and the closed cell foam is a better insulator. While it doesn't pack down small it does pack down flat and can easly be folded down to two sections and placed against the back inside your pack. This actualy gives your pack extra suport too.

If ya wanna try it out just let me know. I have a book of Joe's I have to ship back to you anyhoo if ya want me to send it along too.

Sounds good Nige, unless we get a better offer ;^). Does he want that book back? (We have too many laying around here as it is)

Aw for Pete's sake! Can't you people stay on subject at all?! It's just a mild burn. The man thinks he has to do everything outdoors topless.

Hey, she's just a little baby, can't you just get a cheap blue foamy and cut it WAY down? Maybe if you got a big one you could cut it into two or three pieces of increasing sizes so you could use the larger pieces as she grows. What are you doing for a sleeping bag? Just a blankie or some fleece footie pajamas? I saw the cutest baby mummy sleeping bag at a place called the Mooses Tooth here in Omaha, but it didn't have a brand label on it so I don't know who makes it. Oh and if you're looking to the future at all, Target has the Coleman for Kids 25 degree mummy bag on sale for $24.99 if you can find one. A really nice bag for the money.

RE: Share yer bed?
:6) His back is FINE!!!

Omahiker, I was thinking of something that will insulate her from the ground real well,(we want to be able to three season pack w/her next year and it's chilly in the spring and fall) is large enough that she can play on it in camp, I can bathe her on, and she can grow into. A 3/4 thermarest ultralight would be perfect.

As for sleeping bags, if I make it to the fabric store this sunday I will be making her a quilted fleece bag with a nylon exterior and velcro closiers (SP?). I have a slumberjack junior +20 bag from my skinny days she can use when she's older. Is the one you mentioned from target teen sized or child sized? I may need to check it out!

Joy, I think in a couple of months you will have a lot of trouble getting Abby to stay on a Thermarest when she is playing. Maybe for a play area you could just spread out a sleeping bag on an extra ground cloth, unless you have an idea for some kind of enclosure to keep her in one place. Or just get her a climbing harness and some bungee cords & you can hang her from a tree branch! Wheee!

Your sleeping bag idea sounds pretty cool, hope it works! Oh yeah and the Coleman bag I mentioned is probably good for kids up to 4 1/2 feet tall.

RE: Share yer bed?
In a couple of monthes she'll be all over the place! I meant playing right now. She just lays in one spot, kicking and waving. I just think that because it rolls up so small and is easily cleaned it'd be ideal. We don't really have alot of C.I in her carrier (3400). That has to be my stuff and hers. And Hyperpacker has 5400 tops. That's all his stuff + community gear and food! I'll probably just end up with stuff hanging all over her carrier in stuff sacks!

RE: Share yer bed?
Kudos to you, Joy! I took my girls car camping when Jenny was 3 1/2 and Audrey was 6 months. It was a miserable experience! Babies and camping, definately not my gig!

I am looking forward to taking them backpacking this summer. They got coleman kidz daypacks for Easter. They can't wait to try them out. They were upset when I went to TN without them. They still talk about you and everyone that went to Pictured Rocks. I'm very grateful that all of you helped make that a wonderful experience for them. :o)

RE: Share yer bed?
Joy, at times I do have to put an effort to staying on my thermarest. I don't know if it makes sense to velcro the thermarest onto the sleeping bag at night. Just a thought.

Also, instead of making a very small sleeping bag, you could make it to expand as she grows bigger. You could maybe make a loose stitch, and open it up later on.

Sunshine I don't know that I deserve kudos, maybe a thunk on the head to knock some sense into me! We have to try it at least! I hope to hike with Jenny and Audrey again! And maybe Wyatt too.

Good idea Lips.
