A few weeks age Reformed Lurker was telling me about shell he got for his fleece bag. I am looking to get something like that or maybe a liner ( SILK???) any suggestions?Experience?

RE: Fleece bag liners or shells?
I use a fleece bag liner when winter camping. Turns my +20 3 season bag into a decent 4-season bag. I have two liners, one is homemade, cost about $12.00 for the fleece & I sewed up at home. The other I purchased for about $50.00 at REI, there is no difference. Live & learn. With either liner my bag is comfortable (for me, a warm sleeper) down to about 0 degrees.

My boyfriend let me use his poncho liner from when he was in the army. Big mistake. He will never get it back - he had to buy a new one! It works wonders to keep you warm in colder weather. I use it on my bed for every season. It weighs very little and stuffs very small.

I have something like that, but I bought it at Wal-mart for less, I'm pretty sure. I've used it before as a liner in my 20F bag, plus if I'm camping in the summer, that's what I take instead of either of my real sleeping bags. I don't know about the "adding 12 degrees" claim, but any extra insulation is good, as long as you're not compressing the insulation in your outer bag.

Plus, if you like that feeling of having a blanket pulled up over your shoulders, it gives you that.

I got one from gear trade. (treebeard said if I buy one more piece of gear he was going to cut my credit card up. Ive had that card for about 3 years and thats the first time he ever said that.)
Damn you gear sluts!!

Hay Maple - Is your hiney shiney today? ;)

Take a look at this liner I made from a cheap Wal-Mart fleece sleeping bag. Only 13 Oz and you can make two from the same fleece.

Campmor carries some from a company called Design Salt, in a variety of fabrics and styles. They look more shaper to fit in a mummy bag. I have been thinking about getting one to make my 30 degree bag warmer. I think the lightest and warmest is the silk adds 9 degrees and only weighs 4.7 oz's but it is $60, main reason I haven't gotten one. A non woven nylon adds 6 degrees and weighs 5 oz for $8, wonder what it is like.

Thanks Adventurist. I'm at that point in my career where I can pretty much buy what I want, but I like to "make stuff". The engineer in me doesn't go away when I go home. I like the challenge of making good usable gear from cheap materials, like the stoves and potstands I design and make. It's fun and I like to share my designs on my website.

So treebeard was cool on the tent purchase? You did need a good tent.
I make a lot of stuff. Look around my website. The last pic in the "Other homemade alcohol stoves..." page might look familiar.

I have a stupid question.
How do you put the rectangular fleece bag inside of your mummy bag. It just seems that it would be all twisted and such when you try to put in the mummy bag.

Would it work if you put your mummy bag inside of it?

Go ahead and beat me up for asking this question..lol

I have the Design Salt silk liner and a Flece liner for when its really cold, seems like they do add about 10deg, I can work the felt into the foot box of the mummy bag OK, You could also put the bag inside it I guess, never tried it. May have that opportunity in two weeks

I have a 30 degree down bag, and a coleman fleece liner that i use inside the bag. I don't have any trouble putting it in.. i unzip both all the way and put them together.. then climb in and zip both up. Both of these keep me toasty in 10 degree weather. I have been contemplating about getting a zero degree bag, but I keep warm now so...
