Allright! First Trip this week! Dinkey Lakes
Ok, I'm more than ready and I'm headed up to Dinkey Creek in a week. Thats if the road is open, I might have to wait two weeks until the snow has melted enought to get to the trail head, but I am definately there! I'm finishing my last finals today, selling my books back for some trail cash, and gettin the he!! out of Dodge :) I've been running 5 miles a day and doing some weight training in anticipation for some peak bagging and deathmarching. Summer is finally here! I hope to bag Dogtooth Peak and the Three Sisters up at Dinkey. Both are above 10,000 ft.

I am new to snow hiking and have being informed that an ice axe is essential to hiking the wonderland trail this time of year... does anyone know how to measure the correct length for the axe

Something like this happened to me back in college.
A couple other kids ended up in the hospital.

Thin Air-
I tried driving to Manter Mdw. 2 weeks ago. That's the road going over Sherman Pass. I came up from the east side and couldn't make it to the turn off because of snow. Let us know if you make it, I'd love to be going back to Dinkey.

I'm driving up to Dinkey Creek Campground tomorrow to do some fishing. I was there a couple of weeks ago and the snow was prevalent. I'm hoping I can drive up some of the jeep trail, but we will see.

Good luck, but don't push it! Hate for you to get stuck in the snow, and me the 1st to find you on the 4th of July. 8^)

I like dinky lakes because they're less popular and more private than big lakes. Also you get a better sense of the forest at a dinky lake than one where you can't see the other side.

These Sierra names are confusing...it just sounds like ThinAir is planning a trip with three sisters to some dinky little lake.

Dinkey Lakes ain't dinky at all...It's a Wilderness.

I was there last summer, I saw about 5 other people. The area is rather large, and the lakes are bigger than the ones that the OHV ers get to use. Dinkey Lakes Wilderness is mostly above 8000 ft with The Three Sisters the highest Point. There are a few different types of trout that live in the lakes including Golden Trout.

Dinkey Lks. were named after Dinkey the dog who was killed by a bear while protecting his pioneer family.
Just another tidbit of trivia for your vast warehouse of useless information.

Snake, are you sure?

Well I went fishing at up at Dinkey Creek and I tried to get to the Dinkey Lakes Trailhead, but I ran into a roadblock of snow about two miles up the road. With that at only 2 miles and the road being 12 miles to the trailhead, I think I'm going to wait a couple more weeks until the day after Memorial Day when all the 4x4s make some tracks in the area. That way I won't get stuck! The ranger station said that it should be passable by then.

Here is a map of Central California and if you look at the middle you'll see the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness Area that site also describes the area well.

I'll be there next week! Just wish I was leaving today! It's 102 deg.F outside right now. I did some heat training outside yesterday (I ran 2 miles 7minute pace) when I got back, I took my temp and I was at 101.9 . Hmmmmmm I'm not sure if that was a good idea. Also I've got this crazy wheezing cough today. I'll probably save the running for the gym from now on.

Snake is right.
I've tried the Dinkey Lakes trail several times. Road closed by snow, road closed by fallen tree, snow too deep on the trail. I did make once. GREAT TRAIL!!
Let us know when you make it.
