Hypers whinning and griping thread
I was awoke last night at 130am by my dog Birch. She was having a seizure that lasted 10 minutes. After a poor sleep I went to work. I raced home loaded up both dogs for the vet. $357 later I went home, dropped them off and headed to the sitters. After getting Abby I went to a customers house to get money for their supplies. During the drive I noticed the car was driving sluggish. I parked and smelled smoke, sure enough there was massive amounts of acrid blue smoke pouring off of my brake rotors. The pads had fused to the rotors. tomoorow I will pay $75 for a tow, then I get to play mechanic.

On the flip side. I never got angry the whole time,no cussing or outbursts. Plus the side job on saturday will pay for part of the vet and my new brakes.

What a day!

I was going to start a thread, "Sunshine is Sunny Anymore" LOL But this is the perfect thread to add my whining too.

Just so everyone knows, I'm moody, overly sensitive and crabby lately. I expect this to diminish over the next two months. Please do not take offence to my remarks, I'm just going through a "phase" and if I over react, just ignore me. I will return to my usual self eventually. Just need to wait for the smoke and dust to clear from the latest bomb dropped. :o)

My truck broke down on top of Salmon Mountain. Lucky for me I was able to coast down the other side 10 miles into a one store town. They let me use their phone. A tow truck and 400 dollars later I had a new fuel pump.

I have the solutin to all your problems. Just follow my system. My car as a screwed up front end. I've already put about $300 into getting it fixed, yet it still is a piece of sh!t, so I am determined to just drive it until the wheels fall off. Then AAA will tow it for me. Easy as that.

my rings are shot, I have massive leakdown in my cylindars and the mechanic said that for the price of the repairs, it's cheaper to get A NEW ENGINE!

Oh yea, and they can't locate one for me either.

P.S. I still have a few payments on it! OUCH!

Hyper, I guess you are still too young and dumb understand the concepts of preventive maintenance, planning, and reality. Now that you are a parent you had best pay close attention and learn fast.

Welded the rotors.....good grief.

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
You know bacpac, a good suggestion can be delivered like a gentle rain or like a sledgehammer. Hyper, not overreacting to a rash of bad events is great. Maybe when I'm seventy I'll get the hang of that. If you both work and have a baby, preventative maintenance is hard to schedule. At the start of each year mark up your calendar with regular maintenance for people, pets, cars, house and tools. It helps in my house at least, but we are closer to alzheimers than you.

Bacpac, the car was three weeks old. How much preventative maintenace would you do on a vehicle that you just bought? (From a dealer) And the brakes are brand new, just fine. They weren't the problem.

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
How does a brand new composite brake pad weld to a brake rotor? Why would you pay for towing and do mechanical work on a three week old vehicle? Why not call the salesman for a loaner and have the car fixed under warranty?

Maybe he drove around all day with the parking brake on.

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
Bacpac, the master cylinder failed. The internal piston failed to retract causing the calipers to freeze in the "brake" position causing the pads to lock onto the rotors burning/glazing them both.Once they cooled for an hour the vehicle could be moved, albeit very slowly and not far. BTW the emergency brake doesnt effect the front brakes, rear only.It(E-brake) is cable operated and works independent of the hydraulic brake system.Bacpac it is obvious you dont understand the basics of brake system operation.

It was a used car, no warranty.I called the Salesman, buyer beware .The tow is being reimbursed.

Also I didnt use the word weld. I said fused. Quite a bit different. Learn to read. And not jump to conclusions. Remember dont assume, it makes an @ss out of you!

A used car nightmare. Hyper, you really get a medal for not flipping out now. Joy, has Abby gone on any backpacking trips lately? How do you bring all her stuff? Do you go in larger groups or just the three of you? Hope you don't think I'm nosy, just curious. Do you think she will be safe on the trail with you when she is 6-8 (my kids' ages)?

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
Young and Creaky, She'll go on her maiden trip this weekend. She's only done dayhikes so far. All her stuff will be packed in with mine in her Kelty Expedition Kid carrier. It's got about 3400 C.I. Should be interesting to say the least! I'll give a full report afterwards. We chose a campsite that has a road nearby so if we need to bail we can. I hope she'll be safe with us at 6-8 years old! I plan on taking her with us as often as possible and teaching her camping ettiqute and the "no-no's and okays" of being on the trail and in camp. I don't think there's much danger in taking a child on the trail just so long as you keep a good eye on them, their water intake etc. Probably just as safe as any newbie! :o)

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
Oh THAT'S comforting. What does :o) mean? Abby probably won't get sick. As kids, we never got sick on camping trips, except occasional stomach aches from different diet. Hotel rooms are much more likely to make you sick. We did do a lot of fearless stuff, and I once fell off a cliff. I caught my elbow on a boulder, and my Mom was able to grab my arm and haul me up. She ended up with more injuries than me. We had great times so I intend to do trips with my kids. I'm just apprehensive and my husband is not that into it yet. Thanks for your answers.

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
Need a new husband?~@%^>

Fell off a cliff!?!?!?
How far would you have fallen if not for the boulder?

My #3 son and two girl cousins attemped to swim about 40-50 yards to a raft in the middle of a lake when he was 6 1/2.
The girls were 8 & 10 and decent swimmers.
We were camped about 1/4 mile from the lake and I told them to wait for me before swimming.
When I arrived they were on shore looking beat and scared.
The boy couldn't make it and they turned back about half-way.
The girls swam along side propping him up(he's a big guy) and saved his life!
I missed the entire drama.

Is this why we had kids?
Life wasn't stressful enough.

Tom, the cliff was a hundred feet over a river and just a little ways from a raging waterfall. I fell because the ground was slimy. So, my Mom saved my life.

:o) means I write that with a smile on my face, with a bit of humor. I'm not concerned about her getting sick. Her diet won't change. I'm mostly concerned about a night of little sleep, and her being tired of riding in her carrier and letting us know about it.

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
Yeah, Tom, I've often wondered why I was lucky that time and others. God must have a plan for me do to something useful :o). Someday I'll find out what it is. Maybe your boy has a guardian angel too. My husband is okay. He loves cars and motorcycles, and I could care less. So we try to accommodate each others' hobbies. Joy, I remember lots of nights with little sleep when they were babies. My youngest one was always up at 5 AM until she was 3 years old. Now I'm stuck with the habit of going to sleep early and getting up at 5 myself. But dawn is a beautiful time. Maybe midday, you and Hyper can take turns napping. You won't go as many miles but the baby can play out of the carrier during that time. Good luck!

RE: Hypers whinning and griping thread
Don't let the horror stories scare you, Joy. We have such incidents at home, too. I've had to dislodge things from my oldests throat twice when she was between two and three years old. Her day care provider had to do it once, also. I'm grateful that my two other children haven't need such assistance, not yet at least.

My only suggestion is to bring water from home for Abby's diet. I know it's a lot of weight but... I always brought water in clean milk jugs when I traveled with my babies because some water is *harder* or *softer* than what the babies were accustomed to. Hard water, in particular, can cause digestive problems such as gas, constipation or diarrhea. It's just a suggestion. Some kids aren't affected by the changes at all.

Be sure to let us know how it goes! Take lots of pictures to share.

young&creaky-
I've been lucky when I had to be.
My guy had two guardian angels that day, his cousins.

I've been lucky on motorcycles.
Once after flyin' through pouring rain at 80+ mph on a BMW-cycle I got back on and there was a serious wobble.
I stopped and looked at the rear wheel axle.
The "Jesus" nut was GONE!!! and the wheel had worked its way half off!!!
That woulda been pretty!

Talk about thread deterioration.

TomT, my husband has a BMW motorcycle, It's an F650. He just sold it, and is looking to buy an Aprilia RVS 1000cc. It's a lean down bike. I only see really young guys riding lean downs, and hubby is 36.

We should ask the st(d)ealership to throw in a 5pd jar of linament for what may turn out to be a back braker of a bike.

I've never heard of that Joy, I'll keep it in mind. When I worked with horses, I always liked using Absorbine. It smelled real good. They make Absorbine jr. for people, but I haven't tried it since I'm not aching yet in my life, knock wood.
