Great Shots WW. Beautiful scienery to hike in looks like. That first shot kinda reminds me of Cathederal Spires in the Black Hills.

Really great pictures, Wind Walker. Could you give a little more geographical reference, like "in Northeast *** state. Everyone talks about their trips but I get confused as to where these beautiful places are.

Great Pics, WW... I'd love to head into that area for a long weekend. I guess maybe I shoulda paid attention to your directions down there, huh? I think you said you started about an hour south of Fresno area... that's about 3 hours from me, going REAL fast.

Thanks for the look at your trip, WW. The background in the second shot of you with pack on is quite a different type of forested valley than I'm used to around the Northwoods. Very interesting.

Nice pictures Windwalker. Quite fast page loads. What were the file sizes on the full screen pics and did you use some sort of optimizing program like Adobe Imageready? When did you do the trip? Must have been very recently by the looks of the Kern. What was the weather like? No snow visible. All gone? What were the elevations?

RE: Pictures from last weeks trip!
I was up at about 7,000 ft at Dinkey Creek Ca, (near Shaver), and the snow was only in the shadows on north facing slopes. Dinkey Creek has already peaked, and is flowing slower already.
I hope to post some pics to the Dinkey Lakes area when I go in a few weeks. Check out this Guy's Trip Report.

RE: Pictures from last weeks trip!
Thanks Y'all!
kleetn ...love the orion, didn't leak a drop.
Obi...it's a 2.5 hour
drive from my place and I'm an hour South of Fresno, a bit further for you. Once the dirt roads open up it's only about an hour to the trail head from here.

pekka ...it's almost high desert, it doesn't see that much rainfall/snowfall.
The vegetation is a little on the sparse side. It's very hot,dry and dusty there later in the season ...but a good early trip.

Bill F., files for fullscreen pics were about 950kb, I just use Corel Photo House.
No snow. Sorry I missed you when you were here with that Monument thingy.

ThinAir...got directions from Porterville to the Dinkey Lakes trailhead?
Those were beautiful pics!

RE: Pictures from last weeks trip!
Take 99 North to 41 North, get off 41 at Friant Rd. Turn Right onto Friant Rd. heading towards Millerton Lake. When Friant dead ends, Turn Left, Auberry Rd. Follow Signs to Shaver Lake. In the town of Shaver Turn Right onto Dinkey Creek Rd. Take the Rock Creek (one lane Rd.) turn off. Follow the signs to the trail head 12miles. It takes about 1 and 1/2 hour from the 41 Exit. You might want to stop at the ranger station in Prather for a free map. Just look on a Fresno area map for Auberry Road.

It's a lot easier than it sounds!

RE: Pictures from last weeks trip!
The Prather Ranger Station IS where you get the permits. I've got the card in front of me. I'm sure they've got better directions then I do. Call them at (559)855-5355 or their address is:

Kings River & Pinridge Ranger Districts
29688 Auberry Road
